hello here is latest HMP bulletin:
WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS!
So this is good: Members' Bulletin Number 3, "The Fight to Save Our Pension" - explaining further, with examples, that this attack on our pensions by rich Moya and her wealthy dividend-paying RM must be fought - and we might add - "with tooth and nail"! The more years you have till retirement, the worse it is, of course - you could lose over £4,000 per year (23%!). RM's justifications are unbelievable - as is the booklet they've produced. How can we let this outrage carry on even one more minute?
...AND THERE IS SURELY NO TIME TO LOSE?
In fact, the CWU "committee to save pensions" who wrote this Bulletin No. 3, (are they now "official"?), admit that RM only "listens" when we strike. (Well, they wrote: "mobilise for a fight", so we'll take it that they mean actually fighting...) And since consultations close on 10 March 2017, even if the "changes" wouldn't be due until April 2018, isn't the time to fight now, before RM starts doing things behind our backs?
WHERE'S THE UNION BOOKLET?
We see that an alternative "United Defined Benefit Scheme" setting RM's contributions at the same 17.1% as now, and bringing everyone under the DC into the DB scheme, is proposed by the CWU. Actually, it's very hard to understand why they haven't distributed the full details of this UDBS to all of us yet! They must have submitted it to RM, given consultations close in 10 days time. Yet we're the ones who’re concerned by it!
WHAT WE'D PREFER
Honestly, do the managers who came up with the "Preference Exercise" really think there is anything for us to choose between VR, transfer to miles away, or reduced hours?? Especially when so many of us don't even have enough hours to make ends meet at the moment! Where is the option to go full-time? Or for a pay rise? Or "recruiting more hands"?
WE DON'T ACCEPT THESE JOB CUTS
The worst of it is that behind this, is the threat to cut 200 to 300 jobs in Processing alone! Some managers say that we’ll be replaced by the new packet-sorting machine; others say it is to allow mates from other mail centres to come here… What? They could and should come anyway, if they wish to - we need them! What we should be talking about now, is how to stop any more job cuts! PS: Is that what the "round-the-clock" union meetings are for? We did wonder.
BYE FELICIA
The only "good" news is that 4 managers are due to leave. We'll be pleased to see the back of at least 2 of them - and get them off ours'! Sadly, B the B, King Etcetera, etc. are RM favourites and won't go unless we remove them ourselves…
LET’S GET TOGETHER!
We were glad to have a drivers' union meeting the other week, about the pension attack. And maybe it'd be even better if all the other sections had meetings about this too - and better still, if everyone met together across sections to discuss what we're prepared to do, to stop RM in its tracks?
NO MORE MAIL CENTRE CLOSURES!!
We've heard rumours of plans to close Romford! Incredible really, since the "Preference Exercise" listed Romford as somewhere we could transfer to! Does the right hand not know what the left is doing? If RM does plan to close Romford - its plan must be scuppered!
THE IDEA OF THE YEAR
We couldn't believe our ears when we heard managers talking about shifting drivers' night duties to absurd hours in the early morning. Thankfully, they came to their senses and our shifts will now remain the same. Next time they get a brilliant idea like this one, they’d be advised to get a reality check from us first!
SAME AS ELSEWHERE
We can't understand how Distribution drivers' duties could be cut, when there aren't enough of us as it is! Everywhere in this place is short, including Deliveries! Managers can’t even cover sickness and they want to cut us. Are they completely bonkers? Stupid question.
HYPOCRISY
So, after suddenly stopping the recognition of our long service here, and cutting bonuses, dinners and awards, these have now been reinstated! But it seems the amount of the service bonus has shrunk!
So for instance, after 30 years hard labour in HMP, we're "offered" £100 instead of £150! That's 6p per week! Makes us feel like throwing that "seniority badge" straight in the dustbin...
AND MORE HYPOCRISY
Yes, we're given a "have your say" questionnaire as usual (in WTS). This time in fact, it was honestly introduced: "it's important that you feel you have your say" - even if you aren't really having it.
PREFERENCE FORM FOR HIM?
The Romec Elephant has lost yet another supervisor. How will he fill the vacancies? It’s going to be hard to find someone who wants to get that close in order to scratch his back - which seems to be the main qualification for the job..?
