was given a quote by my line manager for VR, i accepted this quote. That was nearly 2 WEEKS AGO! When should i hear back if i'm getting the vR. How long does the process take from the time you accept the offer of VR till you get the VR?
Thanks in advance

Quote by manager is not binding it is just a 'feeler'.
If it is anything like the procedure in our office he will then wait until everyone as got back to him who have also received quotes, he will then submit the most senior aceptee(s) to HR.
If they decide to then proceed with the VR (not unusual for them not to proceed ) then HR will write to you with a formal offer setting out the full settlement terms and conditions, you then have a further period of time to accept the offer formally. IIRC your termination date will be set out in these documents.
If you do get a formal offer I would expect you to be on your way the last Sat/Sun in March, IE the end of the financial year. If you do not have everything completed by then I would imagine it as been blocked.I know at least 1 person who was offered and accepted VR in the past but it was dragged out beyond 1st of April by union fighting it and the offer was subsequently withdrawn.
GL it is a new life on the other side

When you get offer through. It will have a last day in service. Usually when letter is sent out. Then you just work your notice. Sign it. Return. Job done. If you have a few years in - notice can be long. I worked 12 weeks.

If they want to get it in before year end then expect to receive PILON in order to be paid out before April 1st, nice additional 10 weeks on top of VR for meFatboyslim wrote:When you get offer through. Why is VR selected on seniority? Is it part of some agreement?
Purely from a business/commercial perspective it surely doesn't make any sense, It would be far cheaper for RM to offer VR to a full timer who has say 8 years service compared to one who has 25 or 30 years service

Wacko that would be discriminating against the staff member with 30 years as you are cherry picking other people for the businesses benefit.
Seniority may have its flaws and doesnt always seem fair but it's the best solution available.

South London Postie - Yeah I agree it would be discriminating against most senior staff, but when has discriminating against staff based on length of service bothered RM previously? (see the new proposals thread)
I'm not offering a personal opinion as to whether offering VR based on seniority is right or wrong... just genuinely curious as to why RM do it when it's not the most commercially efficient way of getting rid of staff, are they obligated to do it due to some RM/CWU agreement or UK employment law?
