Sounds like He's playing mind games. Sit tight and hold on to that full time contract with your life, give it time & you may well be working just 35 hours for the same pay if the union get their way.

Buy down is a rip off, you get taxed on the entire lump sum, you end up p/t which means loss of allowances + bonuses etc.It also means the odds are you will never be offered redundancy. They tried to reduce f/t staffing in our office by a vr and a buy down but were convinced to give 2 VR instead :nana :nana :nana :nana

Hang onto the f/t contract or persuade to offer a VR if they are adamant they want to reduce f/t VR and you want to leave is tax free for first £30k.

This as always confused me, it is all a paper excersise designed to pull the wool.

So your hours drop to 35, are mail volumes going to drop? Is the actual workload going to drop, are RM going to employ loads more posties? Is lapsing going to dissapear?

IF you answer like hell they are to these questions everyone must realise that either, they already only work 35hrs, or they are going to have to work a damned site harder to fit the work into 35hrs.

Of course RM could be planning on making it really easy to claim and get paid all overtime :left: :left:

Or maybe the clause will be breaks become unpaid, giving a theoretical drop in hours/ pay increase, and the advantage will be the increase in O/T pay (if you can get it)

As far as I'm aware, buy downs are only available in relation to a revision.

Even then, they are difficult to get.
You'll find that, if the manager is aware you want to reduce hours, they will wait until you'll do it for free.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
