Get Rid of Work Place Coaches

Work Place Coaches are paid an additonal supplement every week for holding this title and yet in reality they do very little extra to earn it. What a waste of money they are. Instead of Royal Mail forcing us all to do more and more work with no extra time allowed to do it, how about just scrapping these pointless roles and saving the money they pay out to WPCs.

In my office the WPC trains maybe 5 or 6 new starters on his HCT walk every 3 or 4 months on average. Sometimes the new starters are even put with other OPGS who are expected to train them and not get paid anything extra for doing so. Generally about 90% of new starters leave within a matter of days, weeks or months as they realise the value Royal Mail places on their workforce.

It's the not the work place coach's fault if Managers don't utilise their role correctly, it's purely down to crap management, as is most things wrong with Royal Mail. Managers should be made part time and that would save millions!

I don't think we need Work Place Coaches. They do very little to justify the weekly supplements paid to them. Money that could be saved.

I do agree though that the quality of management in Royal Mail is poor. Far too many doing far too little work. Cut back managers to the core and treat the workforce with dignity and respect and the business will flourish. It really is that simple.

Been with Royal Mail 10 months. Never spent a single day with a work place coach.

Worked in 3 different offices.

I have to agree, we don't need work place coaches, but it's not the wpc's fault, it's poor management as usual. Some bright spark near the top of the tree (who have never been in an office never mind delivered a letter) came up with the "fantastic" idea of a wpc and got a big bonus for implimenting it.
We had a guy in our office a few years back who had worked all over the world with different companies (setting up mobile phone networks) and he said that the Royal Mail management was the poorest he had ever encountered. He wasn't telling us anything we didn't already know, but I'm sure most of us could make changes in our workplace which could make things run smoother.
In short, don't blame the wpc's, blame poor management.

A nice idea getting rid of WPC's and managers, but when we have no section manager in our office overseeing our group of colleagues, all hell breaks loose and the more experienced take full advantage. You can't leave our group unattended, indoor duties are carved up and postmen/women disappear out of the door before the jobs are all complete. There needs to be a controlling element there. I agree sometimes a manager present can't even do that.

The WPC role seems to be an under used one, but the role itself does seem to be a way of rewarding an arse licker. He/she just carries on doing what they did before with a little premium every week.

Our wpc is also our union rep, now not only in my opinion is this a conflict of interests he does very little in both roles.

They are a complete waste of space/time/money at my MC.

They are only used during the Christmas pressure period - rest of the year - nothing.

Not including the fact that most of the time they don't know what they are doing.

Totally agree WPC are not required at all, also line managers do not justify their jobs so like someone has already said make them part time the savings would be great but given we are all share holders can we not do something about getting rid of WPC and f/t line managers while front line employees line their pockets

Agree totally get rid of wpc and make managers part time or floating between D O's it's not like years ago technology is there so managers don't have to be and if you have a question phone the. Manager if he's at another office .Why must cuts always come on delivery

I take it all you people saying get rid of the WPC have never worked in sub offices before because believe me I do plenty of work for my extra pay

WPC are a means by which management are able to avoid confrontational situations. Recently they appear to be a conduit for exploring customer complaints and tracking issues. They are regarded with some scorn and derision in my LDO.

I think your getting "very little" mixed up with absolutely nothing?!!! Certainly nothing that benefits our office one jot!!! But it goes on and will continue to go on as it's no doubt been introduced by some boffin? It should be re named sweeping under the carpet operative???
