Are my managers telling me lies?

Question. Been chasing up on my managers about getting my bank holiday paid in over time as they were unable to provide me another day off during the week. (my day off fell on december 27th) I currently don't want the day off credit as i am still owned a lot holiday and they don't want to give me my outstanding entitlement (stage one grievance going in about that) they say they can't pay that as operations team won't allow them to (or something like that) are my managers telling me lies? can i get the day off paid in over time

As far as I am aware the choice is yours whether you take the day paid as overtime or have a day off at another point in time. Perhaps somebody else on here can point you to the relevant agreement?

Yes they're lying it's either a day holiday added or a days pay paid as overtime.

I know in our office we always get the choice. Never any quibbles from management. In fact in your case you have an even stronger argument for being paid for the day because you're not able to take your holidays anyway, so what would be the point in taking another day holiday. Stand your ground. You are entitled to get paid for the day.

Not sure tbh, you aren't allowed to work your holidays as o/t for certain. As for B/H you were not asked to work the b/h it just happened to be your day off, so i Suspect they don't have to pay you o/t and can enforce a day in lieu, you certainly could not claim b/h overtime, and that is probably were the problem lies. IE if you had worked your day off you would have a choice, as you have not then no choice. As for your greivance, have you checked psp to see how many hours you are owed, and to make sure the b/h day off as been added? I know a few fell foul when they finally switched to psp and time off being booked in hours rather than days particularly if you are working x weeks on 1 week off. GL

If a bank holiday falls on a day you would normally work, you take the day off.
• If your rest day falls on a bank holiday, your manager will check if workload allows for you to have another day off that week.
• If you are unable to take another day off, you can either:
» add the day to your annual holiday entitlement; or
» take the excess hours paid as overtime. This will be paid at the Monday to Saturday overtime rate.
• If you work for Parcelforce Worldwide, ask your manager how bank holidays are dealt with.
• If you have a part-time contract, your bank holiday allowance will be pro-rated depending on the number of days you work, e.g.:
» 5 day contract – full entitlement of 8 bank holidays
» 2 day contract – 3 bank holidays

This is a direct copy of the agreement. You would be entitled to your days pay.

Yes you can take a payment rather than a day off. It is called a Bank Holiday Excess Payment and comes from the overtime budget.

Yes they are lying. Had exactly the same thing a few years back!
Put in a stage 1 grievance and was paid 2 weeks later :)

I cc'd the area manager and the local and area rep in too!

I have recently been able to get hold of a copy of the training manual for Royal Mail Managers, unusually its written by an outside agency.

We can have it paid if we want but were told the system needs at least a 1 weeks notice and it can't be done after the bank holiday.

Garbage from your managers. I put in a grievance and was paid the bank holiday nearly 6 weeks after the actual day.
