Here is a "hypothetical" situation.
Assuming two OPGs sign for two paired delivery walks.
OPG_A gets WalkA
OPG_B gets WalkB
Now due to the paired delivery walks being "hypothetically" too long due to them being a mish mash of bits taken off other walks, and are known to be two of the worst hypothetical walks in the office, OPG_B decided to give up WalkB, and gets to choose a different shift.
OPG_A is now doing WalkA on their own, with WalkB getting lapsed daily.
Seeing as WalkB is now vacant, does this mean that "hypothetically" it must remain vacant for 12 months before anyone can sign for it?

Shift signed for, then given up?
This seems to be a popular thing. I know at least 2 offices where a guy has signed for a duty but spends most of his weeks doing PD duties or easier walks. While his signed walk is either done by a reserve or is used for lapsing. Both walks are on separate van duties too.
One of them is because a guy signed for a duty and didnt like the partner he signed to work with so has pretty much had free run at what he wants and rarely does his walk. It's pretty baffling how it's allowed to happen.
Meanwhile there are guys who have been there a couple of months less than him who are desperate for a duty and all applied for this particular duty but missed out.
I always thought that if you signed for a duty you did it. But it seems now people sign for duties and then have the rest day that goes with it but spend the rest of the week doing what they want.
Personally it doesn't bother me most of the time but when you see this guy delivering a walk right outside the office and then half of the office is driving to the postcode boundary to lapse his walk it does get a bit frustrating.
