Just a query what happens if you get ill and can't go in? Do you have to be really bad and that? Also do they do a back to work interview?

Ring in & say your not well enough. (Obviously needs to be something serious & not a sniffle of a cold)
I think the back to work interview is if you have been off work 1/2 weeks

Welcome back meetings
• On your first day back at work, your manager should hold an informal welcome back meeting with you.
• During the meeting your manager will make sure that you’re fit to return to work.
• They will discuss the reason for your absence with you, and make sure you’ve provided the right certification.
• Where appropriate, your manager will discuss the support that Royal Mail can offer.

The back to work interview is for every absence - the length of such absence is immaterial.

Also, to be pedantic, each individual is different and if you think you are too ill to attend work, then don't.

There is also a 2nd option available, you can report for work, but advise the manager you are unable to complete a full duty because of your sickness. The manager may, or may not provide assistance (they don't have to) and they may indeed instruct you to go sick.

The 3rd option is to report for work, but then realise you really can't continue and report sick. This, if it remains a single day is known as a "part day absence" and isn't normally counted in the attendance procedure.
