Job and Finish needs to go
Working at Royal Mail it never ceases to amaze me how some colleagues act like they haven't left the school playground. Those who feel constantly aggrieved despite the fact they have the easiest deliveries in the office. So much so that they have time to concern themselves with what others are doing or what overtime they are getting.
I have said before on this forum that in my view, there are many in Royal Mail - at all levels from managers to posties - who would simply not be employable elsewhere.
One of the biggest issues that needs to be confronted is the absurd nonsense whereby you have some colleagues regularly going home an hour or more early while at the same time you have scores of other colleagues working beyond their contracted hours and not getting paid. The problem is further compounded by managers going home early with absolutely no regard for their staff who are still out delivering. What if a member of their staff is involved in an accident or is verbally/physically assaulted?
Things have to change drastically. No more "Job and Finish". Everybody should be made to work their full contracted hours. Those who get back early should be sent back out to help those still delivering. Managers should be in the office until all staff have returned and been accounted for.
No other employer would put up with this nonsense.

Agree but if posties are told they have to work their time they will just slow down on their own duties rather than rush back early to help others so really you wouldn't be getting any extra work out of anyone .

Therein lies the issue. NOBODY would get back early, other than say 10-15 minutes by which time any manager wanting them to go out again would have spent that time explaining it and it would be their home time.
I live these idealistic posts, kind of like the fantasies politicians have but never work in the real world.

i think RM realise that there would likely be less efficency if they took job and finish away, too many people would just "do the job properly". Turning from what is now early finishes into cutoffs.

Which is why the union should be pushing for it!Postie45 wrote:i think RM realise that there would likely be less efficency if they took job and finish away, too many people would just "do the job properly". Turning from what is now early finishes into cutoffs.
Bring on electronic clocking on/off I say! I work all my hours so have absolutely no issue with it!

If you tell people theres more work to do once they finish, Everyone will just work to time.
Also in our office we are always told all rounds are equal, so who do you go help? They don't want to admit that any round is worse than another so do you just go and help the people you like?
As a part timer, sometimes I work with the slowest movers in the office, Some days (like today) I work with ones so fast I'm done by 11.
I like the idea of everyone helping each other to get finished but some people don't even help themselves,
Although the system right now dosn't work it seems to fit best sadly.

for what reason ? surely a better idea would be the equalisation of duties and protecting those who only want to work their hours.WOBBLY wrote:Which is why the union should be pushing for it!Postie45 wrote:i think RM realise that there would likely be less efficency if they took job and finish away, too many people would just "do the job properly". it would be pointless giving them more delivery to do because if there like the fools in our office they will just come in even earlier to do it
, then they wonder why they took 4 deliverys out last year and looking for more savings this year ,
bring in clocking in machines.

To equalise everybody's time, equalising duties is impossible until this is done!! It would help stop people coming in early and working for free and as such will highlight those duties that are to big (or too small)Postie45 wrote:for what reason ? surely a better idea would be the equalisation of duties and protecting those who only want to work their hours.WOBBLY wrote:Which is why the union should be pushing for it!Postie45 wrote:i think RM realise that there would likely be less efficency if they took job and finish away, too many people would just "do the job properly". as mentioned earlier, people will just take longer if they know they will be given extra work if they return early, you wont highlight and equalise workload this way. In theory yes, in practise no.WOBBLY wrote:To equalise everybody's time, equalising duties is impossible until this is done!!
