10 years time

just wondered how many people could still see there self's being in this job in say 10 years time?
or what they imagine the job might look like?

There will be no letters. There will be self driving vans that always put on the handbrake.

Packets will be delivered by an army of clones and drones. They will be the perfect employee, never requesting A/L. They won't go sick, they will have the speed of an f1 car only needing the occasional small amount of oil to keep going. They will obey the DIM with everything, will never cut off and come back for the third and fourth delivery. They will never request a Saturday off or go off sick.

They will never leave. They will also never take a break!

Can't see myself still doing this job in only 3 years time... with the National Living Wage set to rise to £9 per hour by 2020 we posties would need to have some serious pay rises to keep the current parity.
I certainly know I wouldn't carry on doing this job when there are other much less stressful and less physically demanding jobs out there for not much less money.

The workforce will be smaller, the USO will change and drop to 5 days at a minimum, a new CEO will step in to take over the rise of parcels, Parcelforce will disappear, solo van duties will be the order of the day, posties will still be moaning at the length of their duty.

Not quite sure I would agree with that having taken VR and been working the last 8 months in an agency job with no job security and having an assignment where the manager can say don't bother coming again at any time for no reason if you drop bellow arbitory targets.

If you are part time then yes the minimum wage is and will be a boon if you start to work f/t but if you are a full timer even when the min wage hits £9 you will be at least £80 a week worse off before tax.

So the Tories HAVE managed to hit RM in the end! Raise the NMW so high that all the OPG's can leave for other jobs...

I couldn't believe it when Ozzy came out with that in his budget but fair play it looks like it will happen and benefit the lower paid, unlike Liebore removing their 10p tax band..

But seriously, the headline wage is about half of the story. Look at pensions, redundancy deals, IHR deals, ER deals, uniform, shares, early finishing and some autonomy in planning your working shift. As the poster above infers, you could well jump out of the proverbial frying pan......

I will be retired and well out of it and a lot sooner than ten years as well, in fact this May, do I go or do I stay for a while. At least I only have to give a weeks notice.

I don't think anyone can really say. It's either going to be exactly the same or completely different. Moya and her pals have all these bright ideas which most of us just know won't work, they're feeding us blatant lies about what's forecast in terms of amount of mail etc and there's just going to be a big mess somewhere down the line

Just hit 60. seriously thinking of retiring now as they are flogging us like donkeys. more and more parcels, which take longer to deliver, do we get more delivery time.....do we hell. morale is rock bottom everywhere, managers are a joke now, completely useless, only there to manufacture office results to make themselves look good and get promoted. rant over......for now.
