Heavy Big Parcels

Had a parcel today 20inchs x 20inchs x 36inchs deep; weight 18.5 kg. Told had to deliver it, even though down 10 steps to delivery point. Any thoughts.

Thanks for that, I was told as it was in the system then I had to deliver it. Took two of us to get it in the van.

Thought it was 25kg? At PF we had put 2 man lift labels on anything over 25kg.

It not just the weight, its that I couldn't get my arms around it to lift it. So I had to lump it out of the van then down the steps. It was a John Lewis box, so might have had has delicate items within.

Advice as in my office is see H&S rep who will deal with it
Individual, safe system of work, are additional tools needed for this etc.

Then if determined that it can be rolled down the stairs

you are non blameworthy or alternatively if done correctly following a safe working process for YOU.

max bag weights are 16kg, grey/green packet sacks are 11kg. if they expect you to deliver it and its a risk to your health and safety then its got to be a no. ignoring h&s rules is gross misconduct. if a manager asked me to deliver it, I would remind him of the h&s rules. we should be given a sack barrow if they expect this from us. we are not paid to injure ourselves due to management stupidity.

Thanks all the info: This has f...ed my shoulder up and given me back problems. I was just seeing what the general consensus of opinion was before I follow this through with the CWU legal team on Monday. I am sick and tired with DOM's treating us like robots and expecting us to move mountains while they sit on their arses in the office.

The rules at our place are if it fits inside the van it gets delivered! Cast iron radiators, 2-man lift? No problem, ask the customer to give you a hand to unload! 4 van tyres, banded together rolling from side to side in the back smashing everything in their wake! 10 tractor batteries.....but my favourite is the Screwfix order, 10kg of nails in a massive flimsy box!
