FT hours to drop to 35hrs per week?

I had an email from the Union and part of it was about the changes to the pension and there was also mention about reducing Full time hours from 39 hours to 35 hours per week.

Will this be happening or is it something that is being thought about?

Thought about.

Its a proposal to RM at the moment, and something the Union membership decided we should try for at one of the Annual Conferences - albeit with no loss pf pay.

Blimey, a four hr pay rise per week! Where do I sign! Of course there's the small matter that I can't do my walk in anywhere near 39 hrs so how am I going to do it in 35? Surely every office would need to take on about 10% more staff to get anywhere near a clear office every day wouldn't they? Maybe 'the figures' say it's possible, however we know otherwise don't we.

Which as i commented on a previous thread wouldn't go down to well with a lot of people i know!

They would be able to manage upcoming changes without recourse to compulsory redundancies.
There is some evidence that a shorter working week leads to a happier and better motivated workforce.

The main one would be a pay rise without them having to put in much money, they would probably have to pay out more overtime but i'd imagine it would be cheaper than giving a pay rise to every employee.

You'd still get people coming in early so they could complete and finish early

add up your paid meal reliefs per week, then take them off your 39 hours ( full timers) you are nearly there

I expect it to be a 3 year deal dropping 1 hour at the start and 1 hour every year after that. This would be our 'pay rise' for the next 3 years before they introduce the major changes in 2020.

So you could take your meal relief at the end of the shift or as normal(if so you would still be in work for 39 hours)

Thought they were just going to say that meal reliefs are no longer paid breaks and hence working hours are reduced and pay rate effectively rises as take home stays the same. Only a + when it comes to % rises in the future.
