I was on a 19hour contract and worked over 3 days, it has since been increased to a 23hr 40min contract and my manager says I now have to be rotared for 5 day duties. Can I be brought in over 5 days on such a low contract? That is like 4.40hrs a day and has messed up getting kids to school.

It's an offer, they can offer you what they want, it's your decision whether you accept it or not, I would want an explanation as to how they plan to make it work first.

Personally it wouldn't be for me, it's too big a sacrifice for too small an increase in hours but that's a personal opinion, not advice.

His 19hr contract is irrelevant, the "offer" of an increase in hours over more days supercedes it.

Again it's an offer, you can't accept a change in contract and then complain that you can't do it because of childcare issues.

Don't accept the offer if you are not happy with the terms, and counteract with your own offer giving reasons why it would be to everyone's benefit. if you are unable to agree don't accept the offer and continue with your normal duties.

Maybe not, however,my point was ,that there is a policy to assist working parents, therefore a reasonable boss would happily work with the individual to accommodate if possible, things like childcare arrangements.thats why such policies exist ,do they not? people have it where I work, seems okay, from what I can gather
At least they are trying I suppose...for once

How did that happen? They can't just change your contract without consulting you.
