New overtime calculation

New method of time keeping for overtime purposes:-

Overtime is reduced if you finish early on any days, If you finish early everyday then no time is reduced. Foe example

Full timer 39 hours per week: Contractual Finish time 14.05 Monday to Friday 13.15 Saturday

Tuesday finish at 13.30 (35 minutes early)
Wednesday finish at 15.00 (55 minutes over)
Thursday finish 14.15 (10 minutes over)
All other days finish on time

Overtime paid for that week 10 minutes

We have posties that finish early everyday, say 30minutes. So at the end of the week they have worked 36.30 but they get paid 39.00.

We have reserves that get put on some of the bigger walks, at Christmas the were out to 16.05 3 times in a week and claimed nearly 2 hours overtime each day, however if a walk that week finished at 13.35 on the other days then the 6 hours overtime they worked would get reduced to 5 hours.

This seems totally unfair that some people are paid for hours worked and others can finish early every day and not get punished.

Has any other depot adopted this policy?

Please only 1 thread per topic. Its upsets the residents if they have to repeat themselves.

The simple answer to
Has any other depot adopted this policy?
Should be NO.

What you describe is "Banking Hours". That has not been agreed nationally so shouldn't be happening locally. Push it if you must but watch out RM will insist on everyone finishing at their proper time every day. As agreed in the "Working all Paid Hours" agreement. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 53&t=62493" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Same in our place , also ppl working days off only get how many hours theyve actually done for that day instead of the full day s pay as it was before.

Blimey chelseablue, the goodwill in posties agreeing to work a rest day when no one knows the volume of mail/packets, and then they pay for only hours worked!
Sucks, goodwill will be a thing of the past.

TBT,Royal Mail already do,insist ,doesn't seem to be enforced, probably for reasons of expediency, which is about right for this organisation, so badly organised at local level as it is. Mind you, everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face, to quote Mike Tyson.

Why is anyone finishing early? How about trying your 739 items again? If not that, don't the vans need washing loads at this time of year? Every Tuesday for a full scrub-down sounds good to me if you've nothing better to do in paid time.

Man, you guys are being so unfair.

I'm absolutely, absolutely sure if someone "banks" a couple of hours overtime early in the week under this system, they get to go home early on Saturday.

Ok... the problem with that scenario is that postie A did extra overtime during the week and is allowed to go home early on Saturday.

Meanwhile postie B did no overtime, then on Saturday he... goes home at the same time as postie A because the office is clear.

Are they both happy with this? Maybe, if postie A is seriously hoodwinked.

Oh. Just realised. You were being sarcastic eh? Sarcasm doesn't really come across on a page. Plus I don't really get it until ages later. Sorry.

Easy. Don't do any overtime, then they can't dock it (excuse pun) off you. Like you say, people who finish early every day don't get their basic docked. Then again RM isn't the fairest of places to work.

Yep. Try doing no overtime. Unfortunately your colleagues will probably give you more grief about doing that than than any managers ever could.
