increasing contracted hours

Please note: i applied because the hours suited.... I am currently on a 20hr long term contract , after completing a six mouth trail.... in which I worked all over time offered which was around a 50 hr week ( which I wasnt happy about but I was on trail.... so I did it) . My D.O.M recently announced in a morning meeting ( with all employees in on that morning) about safety at xmas I.e p.p.e and driving/ lights ect, that he is looking at increasing the contracts of those on 20hrs to 26hrs .... now can I just expain my contract .. 20hr over 4days Wednesday to Saturday official start 10am & 3pm finish (5 hr days) with reasonable overtime . From day one I havent done less than a 7hr day, which if I only worked 4 days is 28 hr ( my contract + reasonable overtime in my eyes anyway) but I have worked even more than this, more than occasionally. Now to the point I work 28hr minium but he is offering extra 6 hours on my contract ( which doesnt cover my minimum hourz on what I am currently doing) but for these extra 6 hr can he expect me to work a extra day or can I refuse the new contract ... need Info o where I stand

You can refuse any new contract.

My tips for being made full time go as follows

1. Put in a formal grievance.
2. Contact ACAS and involve them in early conciliation. This will put pressure on your DOM.
3. Press for the grievance meeting. They will stall.
4. Finally, get all your part timers to stick together. This will involve working only contract hours later. This will put extreme pressure on your dom. You will want the union on your side so make sure they're aware. They might even try to scare you into not doing it. That's what my union rep did. Didn't work.
5. Follow ACAS recommendations.

Worked for me and my co workers.

I`m on 25 hours contract over 5 days/week but I usually do more than 40 hrs/week overtime which I`m happy to as the money I earn are almost double than my basic pay (239/week).
If you get a 26 hours contract it will most probably be spread over 5 days as well, in my opinion you will work as much as now or less, but they have to give you one day off/week anyway so you won`t work more than 5 days/week unless you want to work 6 days.

If I`m wrong I apologize, I know I`m new and all but that`s my opinion

Postie - from the tone of your post it sounds like you don't want to work more days, in which case you should consider CreditShampoos guidance,
but before that I can't tell from your post if you've actually asked if the contract would be over more days - that would be my first move.
