Worried
Hello. I hope it's okay for me to post here despite not being a Royal Mail employee, I am incredibly worried about my husband and wondered if anyone has any impartial advice about what he can do or even if this just acceptable behaviour in the Royal Mail.
He is still in his probationary period. He loved the job when he was on park and loop but was given a walking round for Christmas. He has never had training on this route or any other trolley route aside from this is how to fill it up. Never the less he still enjoyed it.
The problems began when he refused to use his car to go to another office, he was shouted at and called stupid down the phone (both myself and another RM employee heard that). That manager (not DOM) has been incredibly rude to him and nasty, including taking his ID photo and photo shopping it into a photo and spending photos of it to an employee in another office as well as putting it up in my husbands office. This was done under the guise of 'banter' but they've never had that sort of relationship so instead felt like humiliation.
He was finishing before his time every day except for Wednesdays, but as we got closer to Christmas he was finishing late every day.
In the time he has been there he has had to cut off three times, two at his finishing time (once for a family emergency and once for childcare as I was busy) and one an hour after finishing time (he had the doctors for depression because of the way they're making him feel), and it is then that he gets so much crap. That he is not fast enough, that they will have to sack him if he doesn't speed up and so on.
Last time he cut off it ended in him requesting that he has his round tested (advice from another employee) and they refused saying it's Christmas so there's no point. To me that's an acknowledgment that it can't be done in the time they're saying. They said that they'd take a road but that never happened. They compared him to the other new starters and say they all get back on time, but they're all on P&L's with a full timer. He isn't and the only time his stuff gets done properly is if one worker does it otherwise he's got hours of indoor work to do.
They promised some one to go and see where he can make improvements, that never happened. He doesn't know where he could because he hasn't had a meal relief since he has been there, he walks reading the mail and so on.
His rep has been good but he's new and the area says to keep it all informal but he worries about the consequences of that.
I realise that this is long and rambling and I've probably said too much and he's identifiable to the mangers at least but when the doctors are so concerned about him that they've put him on antidepressants and given him crisis numbers as they believe there's an imminent risk and today he's rung me crying from work because he feels like he just isn't good enough and wants to die. Well there's some things more important than remaining anonymous IMO.
Any support, words of advice, would be gratefully received.

I am interested in the bit of your posting concerning his ID photo and the developments that were associated with this photo. In order to protect you and your husband can you send to me by PM more specific details surrounding the reasons that his ID was distributed to other office and placed on board for all to view.

Apart from the bit about the ID photo, this is the way a lot of managers try and treat us,your husband is not alone, they try this sort of behaviour with a lot of us,tell him not to take it personally and get him to read this forum,it should help him realise that the problem lie's with infantile, pathetic "management" and not him, good luck.
For we were soldiers once, and young

I agree with the above, need to name names with this and take it further, makes me sick to know there are people who get away with it.
Don't need to name names here but please take it to the highest possible level.

I cannot believe what your husband is having to put up with, absolutely disgraceful behaviour from this pathetic excuse of a manager. This is a serious bullying and harassment case. As already said above, you need to write an email to justsayit@royalmail.com detailing everything you mentioned above, which office he works at and the managers name. Your husband should also start writing down any further incidents that happen and the time and date and any witnesses at present when they occur. Unfortunately these scumbag managers will deny anything is going on so keeping a written record will also help his case. I would also reccomend seeking help from the area rep or even higher, contact details can be found on the cwu website here http://www.cwu.org/contact-us/cwu-regions-branches/

Go to the press if head office brush it under the carpet. Royal Mail management all pull rank and don't take bullying seriously. The company claim to take it seriously, but they have to look like they are serious as they're in the public eye.
I know manager who's had 6+ grievances in against him,and they're still doing same job and treating everyone like c**ts .
It's time despatches or some other news outlet got inside royal mail to see that the company isn't any better than Sports Direct or JD Sports.

Do you have the local number for the Samirathans or where they are located?
Keep an eye on your husband with the medication, give it a few weeks and if they aren't working go back to the doctor. Also, anti depressants will make you feel worse for the first two weeks or three as they take a while to bed in.
I hope if he needs the help of the crisis team, they are supportive but if not go with him and make them listen. As the others have said contact just say it. However, I hope this different bit of advice helps you.
