Non drivers should be doing more work!

I have been battered with packets this week and last week absolutely pulling my knackers out to get my loops done as well as a massive increase on the packets while I'm doing this my partner hasn't got a worry in the world doing the same old loop day in day out. Its come to me now where the non driver should be helping the driver by taking on a extra loop or bag instead of been on Facebook while waiting for me to come back with his next bag. The non drivers has it easy all year around even easier at the Christmas period. Managers need to review this for next Christmas and stop putting the drivers under pressure.. This will also reduce the extended delivery the driver has to put on while the non driver walks back to the office when he is done saying "Not much i can do to help you mate really as I don't drive"

Don't know how it works at yours, but at ours the non driver takes larger loops, every loop. That means considerably more door to doors, day in day out. Even on light packet day the non drivers work load is the same.

Fortunately, we usually work as a propper team and manage to work it so the driver is only chasing the SD's off the second duty and a few of the largest packets. We manage to leave the van where who ever gets back first can deliver the large packets from where the van is parked. It really is all about having a good partnership and understanding the duty. Fact is we are all over worked.

Incidentally we did used to have the system where the non driver took a large extra loop 40 mins to an hour, so that the driver could go and deliver the bulk packets and SD's. It worked fine, but management messed that up, doesn't happen anymore.

Why is the P/L driver taking all the large Parcels ??
We have all the large parcels delivered by other members of staff in December. The driver on P/L only has to take the specials and do his loops

Because nobody is on holiday in December we have 3 people free who do all the large parcels in the office plussome of the P/T staff on 25 hour contracts come in on their day off as well.
Surely they are not expecting you to do all the large parcels as well as you would cut off after only half of your round done.
What are all the extra staff doing in your office then??
That's ridiculous, think your DOM is after a hefty bonus on unpaid O/T

In our office our DOM is not interested in a bonus. He puts a list up on the board in November and asks who wants to do Large parcels during December and with nobody allowed holiday in December you have additional staff to do Large parcel deliveries. Our DOM get 4 Transit hire vans for large parcel deliveries and we clear every day. Don't know what your DOM is doing and what are the additional staff doing who are not on holiday??

Drivers Duties are Surely The Easier of the two Apart From December When You Should be getting help with the larger parcels anyway
Do You Rush around and help your partner complete loops in the summer?
Or do you go missing in action like mine does?

Is it that hard for people to get a balance between the 2 loops? On a day to day basis we tweak little bits to even out the workload. It's about communication with your partner, and being fair. Sometimes it works out that there is a few minutes wait if one is delayed a lot but generally we have very little time wasted.

sorry OP but if youre rushing around then youre just doing it wrong FULL STOP. Work to a normal pace, stop pressuring yourself into clearing everything as a target. Its expected theres not enough time to deliver everything in duty hours this time of year, if it was the case that you could complete everything at xmas doing everything properly then what does that say about your duty the other 11 months ? that you have it WAY too easy.

Depends what you mean by "Large Parcels". In our office we have all the "Large Parcels" delivered by staff on packet run duties. But there have been 3 - 4 drop bag of "normal" sized packets each on each walk of a pair I've been working on this week. Which by the time you bundle together the doublers / tripplers / quadruplers / quintuplers of small packets for the same house, they are too big to carry in a pouch bag along with the loops bundles of mail. So the driver has to do those, as well as their own loops packets, and keep an eye on time for the SDs. Of course, if a van had two keys that start the van, rather than one, and a key that unlocks only, then whoever got back to the van first could pop and do some additional packets...
