Manchester delivery staff have a limit of 12 hours SA during xmas pressure and normal rate of pay if they work their day off, yet if you work in the mail centre there is no cap on SA!!! Thoughts please brothers?

Something should of been arranged and agreed by both the union and royal mail. If you don't have a rep in the office contact your local branch. But if the majority don't want the o/t, then just don't do it.

Never really understood the appeal of sa rate. It's only a few pennies more than normal rate tho they use it as an incentive to go over your time every Christmas. Is there any benefit beyond a pound or two more in your pocket come Christmas day?

you get paid an average days SA for the days you have off ( Xmas day, Boxing Day, Bank Holiday ) from the previous 4 weeks unto Christmas.
I will average 4 hours SA a day therefore I will get paid 4 hours SA for the three Holidays days.

We used to get SA rate for working over our time, but this year it is just overtime rate. Also our manager has to daily, phone his manager to have any extended delivery time agreed. It is a very sad time, on Monday there were still packets left from Thurs, Fri and Sat because the area manager would not pay to have them delivered. What hope does our business have with managers like this?

to be honest, the area manager probably has someone to report to or are getting bonuses based on how little OT is paid. Either way, the buck stops with Moya for letting this happen.max49 wrote:We used to get SA rate for working over our time, but this year it is just overtime rate. Just remember how they treat you with contempt now yet in 3 weeks time will be begging you to work over for a few pennies more what an insidious bunch of bastards who run this corrupt business for their own gain!Postie45 wrote:to be honest, the area manager probably has someone to report to or are getting bonuses based on how little OT is paid. Totally agree with you K.
IMHO the Union should stop all their messing about with this and that agreement and...... Just negotiate a TIME & A HALF Overtime rate for EVERYTHING worked over your contracted hours
You can bet that overnight every Delivery Office would be made up to strength with the correct amount of Posties.....Because then it would cost far too much to just keep expecting Posties to work 20 hours plus EVERY week!

So true, the ovetime rate surely needs to be reformed, fair enough in the past when you made time on docket or ghosted, you can appreciate why it was flat rate, but those days have gone.Dorset Plodder wrote:Totally agree with you K.IMHO the Union should stop all their messing about with this and that agreement and...... But then no-one would go full time, why would you increase your contractual hours and receive less pay than before.Dorset Plodder wrote:Totally agree with you K.IMHO the Union should stop all their messing about with this and that agreement and...... If you take Christmas out the equation which would probably need it's own separate agreement anyway.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:But then no-one would go full time, why would you increase your contractual hours and receive less pay than before.Dorset Plodder wrote:Totally agree with you K.IMHO the Union should stop all their messing about with this and that agreement and...... You would like to think more people would be made up to full-time permanently or at least get the contract they deserve. If companies were made to pay an enhanced rate for all overtime above contracted hours (not just full-time). It would do away with zero hour contracts and stop companies taking the p*** out of people. I mean why even bother employing some one on 20 or 24.5 hrs when almost all duties are 27.5, 28.5 or even 30 hrs, it's stupid and just encourages bullying and harassment.
In our office and many others I know almost all full-timers work their day off (except long weekends) and get first dibs on any "ghost OT" Yet part-timers struggle just to get their break and are bullied not by management may I add, but by those same full-timers into starting early unpaid.
The whole thing seriously needs to be looked at.

Sorry for my newbie ignorance, but keep seeing the term 'ghost O/T' bandied about - what exactly is it?Newbie001 wrote:................ almost all full-timers work their day off (except long weekends) and get first dibs on any "ghost OT" Yet part-timers struggle just to get their break and are bullied not by management may I add, but by those same full-timers into starting early unpaid. Overtime claimed within your contractual hours.
