New PDA Faults!

I have been using the new PDA for about 6 weeks just the last two days I have noticed I have been wearing gloves and to press submit or tap your name and pin in they just won't have it so I have to take my glove off all the time or get that dreaded stylus stick out from the back which is annoying where we should just press submit with our finger. Th amount of times customers has said the Stylus stick does not work and they have to sign with their finger, and just one more fault the sat nav comes on to annoy you all day even though i never put a route in and cleared the old route...

They're basic touch screen, they don't use conductivity like a smart phone so they should work with gloves, unless the contact area is too big.

They're generally really buggy and are already slowing down. Another thing I hate is that every once in a while you turn the screen on, but it's totally unresponsive. It takes a few seconds to realise you're not just tapping the wrong area, then you have to switch the screen off and on again, sometimes a couple of times, before it finally works.

Yep, they are definitely slowing down already with pauses which they didn't do when new. Just think what they'll be like in a couple of years.

That could just as easily be down to the server where all the scan data is sent to not being able to keep up with the workload or the network overloaded

Someone told us that Royal Mail did not buy enough cloud space,whatever that means. This company could be run so much better,if they employed the right people,with the right knowledge and the right experience,sadly,for us, they don't. Planners for example, have they ever visited planet earth?

One of our lads won the sweep stake the other day........ 1st Postie to break one!

He managed to crack the screen, just like on your mobile. I must admit to not being impressed. I managed to reverse over one of the Old PDAs and it still worked!

How did I manage to reverse over it? Well that's a story for another time!

Give it up rubberbond. This sort of thinking will just end up making you feel insane. I've come to accept that things don't make any sense. The more you think the worse it gets.

Let me guess. You left it on the ground, forgot it was left there and drove over it? Amazing story!

Who nicked all the Jam out of your Doughnut Woopesh? Not quite that simple mate. Since you were so interested...... The PDA was in fact on the dash. Summertime....window open.....bit of rapid reversing...... and it went under the rear wheel as I drove forward. Luckily I was on a gravel track so I suppose that gave a bit? Sometime things aren't as obvious as you think my friend.

They have a digitiser just like a smart phone

Its why they won"t work properly if the screen gets wet in the rain/wearing gloves/using your pen etc!! The old PDAs had the basic touch screen (if you look closely you could see the tiny wires!)

The time taken from 1st scan to the item number appearing on screen is getting greater by the week, frustrating when you've got an impatient customer, then theres the scanner beeping but not showing the item, randomly logging themselves out........ I could go on

There are so many things that could have been done better, especially given the time they had to develop them! The one thing that really bugs me (although easily added with a software update) - why is there no option to scan as 'delivered to neighbour'!!! Perhaps actually talking to posties about what was needed might have been a good start!! Oh and while we're at it why are they so big??

i have noticed my screen slowing down and being less responsive already, people signing their names and nothing showing up and having to ask them to do it again, and no they weren't leaning on it. Also my login has been blocked twice already.

and I find that 90% of elderly customers couldn't sign the PDA. It is not good enough.

Anyone notice the scanning is erratic? Sometimes you will scan and then it will beep but not scan at all. At other times it will go through normally. Its pretty annoying.

I cant see the new ones surviving dorsetplodders driving / running over treatment like the old ones. They were built like tanks.

Been caught out a few times, scan a tracked item, beep, post it through the letter box go to hit submit and there is nothing to submit.

So first beep is pda saying it's seen a barcode and then you must wait for the second beep (anything up to 30 seconds some days) from the RM software to say it has retrieved the barcode information

For a while, I thought when you scanned it and it beeped that it had gone through. I had no idea you had to wait for something to come up on screen and press submit for each one. I've stood there scanning the same packet 10 times and got 10 beeps but no submit screen so thought well, these must have gone through and not need the submit button to be pressed. Not the case. The submit button must be pressed everytime. The new PDA's are s**t.
