No overtime for sick leave

Our lino told us last week that he was not to pay any overtime for any duties that have gone sick, he was also told (by the area manager) to use his imagination in how to cover them , what a joke !! . Saturday came around we had 4 duties not covered and they were still sitting there this morning , tracked items , recorded deliveries parcels a full frame of mail not gone. The guys who came back to work on those duties were told to take Saturdays and leave today's mail (Monday). This is now becoming a regular occurrence, if the public knew what was going on there would be hell to pay.

Our office is only fairly small so when just 1-2 people go sick it all goes tits up because our staffing levels have gone down the pan where we have not replaced people who have left over the last 3-5 yrs especially full timers. More often than not now in my office you have your day off and are greeted by either a full frame of mail , half a frame or a line of mail because it can't be covered, its really frustrating to say the least.

its frustrating yes, but you dont need to make the managers job easier by rushing around (not saying you are) and clearing the backlog. Work at a sensible pace, take your break, work your hours and force the manager into having to go back to his superiors and tell them it cant be cleared without OT being paid. If it gets cleared for free after a few days NOTHING will change.

Yup totally agree, unfortunately like most offices we get the ones who bust a gut and charge around but the goodwill is being drained from our office , numerous times ive come in and worked my time until he has got the back log cleared , I just find it a pretty sad state of affairs when our office isn't being run by the manager anymore but the area manager on the end of the phone.

All offices are like that. The DOMs get their instructions on the daily conference call. I think somebody on here said it best a DOM is just a team leader.
