Do you have to do overtime during the xmas pressure period or can you cut off as usual. Just asking because someone told me working overtime during this period was a requirement of our contract.

theres some fuzzy language in the contract about doing extra when operational needs require it whic i assume is what your colleague is referring to. I dont see any way that could get enforced, your contract is for x hours and thats it.

Your contract states that "you are expected to do a reasonable amount of overtime" what reasonable is is anyones guess.

Definition of Expected:

ex·pect
ikˈspekt
verb
past tense: expected; past participle: expected
regard (something) as likely to happen.

So likely isn't compulsory, it still means voluntary.

Reasonable is 5-10 minutes .I was told this many years ago by an area rep but i very much doubt it holds any ground now.

Bloody hell when I started Royal Mail gave you 26 hours O/T and that was booked whether you worked it or not.

RRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr the good old days any way xmas is now no different to any other time of year.

exactly, they worded it so a dodgy DOM could point to it to intimidate, but its completely unenforcable as "reasonable" is too loose of a term, if you find going over by 1 minute unreasonable then you dont have to do it!

Are you on a temporary contract or partime if so it maybe in your interest to play ball if you are full time and are permanent and a duty that suits you nothing to stop you saying NO.
