Does your office have a fulltime/ parttime divide?

Im sick of the odd few full timers in our office throwing their weight around and using their seniority like a powerful weapon. Does every office have 3 or 4 full timers throwing their weight around and talking to you like a piece of rubbish on the floor in a sort of jesting way but with meaning? We should stick together, full time, part time, cover men and reseves but in our office it seems like it every man for themselves.

I think most Delivery Offices have this little group. I call ours "The Mafia"! As you mention ...Normally the most senior ones in the DO, often with some sense of entitlement due to the number of years done.

I try not to let them wind me up. Bear in mind they may have done X amount of years but most of them were "Soft Years", back in the Good Old Bad Old days of 3 1/2 hour deliveries, Ghosting complete duties AND still finishing before their scheduled time. By the time the crap really started to hit the fan, and Royal Mail started turning the screws (IMO around 2008 after the Financial Crash when RM put a blanket ban on Full Time recruiting) they were already set up in their Favourite Duties (often with a bit adjustments made over the years). Try to ignore them best you can!

It happens... they were once in the same place as you. It is "Banter" nothing more or less usually. Just remind yourself that full timers are a dying breed, let them live their last days in the sun.

Just work your duty..Start time, finish time and give the jokes nothing.

But some lomg service, senior guys will really look after you... Just go with the flow and don't rise to the banter.

There doesn't seem a lot of unity in your office. In ours it is the full timers whom have constantly campaigned for PT's hours to be increased. I also recall on these pages that other offices have 'done the job properly' to increase the hours in their DO.
The bosses enjoy divide and conquer and you and your colleagues are playing straight into their hands.
The best thing about seniority is that it has allowed we the workforce to have some influence when it comes to picking duties. Would you really want your manager to use favouritism as a way of selection?
Recent revisions have put an end to 'soft duties' though the older and more senior members of staff tend to head for the rural duties as these are sit down jobs!

At our office F/Ters start either 4 or 5 o clock and do sorting, prepping, driving duties and a little delivery whilst P/Ters are walk holders starting at 8:30. This creates a division through no fault of the workers as there is hardly any work interaction between each other. F/Ters on the whole are older (as they have more years in) so are better suited to indoor work (less physical duties) whilst the mostly younger "runners" are on delivery. Therefore F/Ters finish earlier in the day but rarely finish before their time but P/Ters can finish up to an hour early on quiet days. Pros and Cons in every job but this doesn't help harmony in the office. Only common ground we have is that everyone gets shafted by RM.

And you get paid doing that.

Yes full time are protected by union and looked after by management,part time are treated like 2nd class citizens.

Our office, There's a divide between 4 day week Rural and 5 day week Town, Van share and trolley walks, part-time and full time, 30 hour part time and 25 hour part time, management and everyone else. There's only 18 walks.
