Postmen being paid monthly
I doubt it.
The overtime my locker staff forget to put into the system for the week is horrendous and then having to wait another week
For my 10 hours missing OT.
I don't fancy waiting another month for my overtime due.

Very possible if RM got into the 21st Century.
Right now if I work overtime I have to
1/ write my on/ off hours on the daily signing in/out duty chart
2/ Sign for the pre agreed overtime on a seperate daily chart
3/ On return try to find a manager (I say try because they have all usually gone home even when we have the DOM, his deputy and 3 linos working!!) If he's there get him to write it down and sign for it but not before the daily " can you see me tomorrow about it" line in their hope it gets missed.
4/ If not phone it in
5/ when it's wrong which it often is go and see the manager again
One simple online system where the employee logs in and inputs his hours, the manger clicks once to approve it and everyone can view it at anytime would resolve the waste of time system above and make paying monthly reliable and easy and save RM a fortune in costs.
The initial month/s would obviously be a financial issue, again easily resolved by RM loaning an amount to employees if requested payable back monthly interest free over 6 months

I've heard for people who become monthly paid when postmen go to HR etc they ease the monthly pay in over 12 months so you don't notice the difference

The last thing most of us want is monthly pay especially with the spend it now type...
You get paid blow the lot in 10 days then spend 2 and a half weeks skint which is exactly what most would do!
I much prefer a weekly top up and hope it stays that way

I assume we're paid weekly because we're on a week's notice. At least, I am.
If we were paid monthly at the end of the month, and someone gave a week's notice to leave early in the month, then it would involve more work for payroll to ensure the leaver wasn't overpaid. i.e. payroll would have to calculate the fraction of the final month worked by the leaver.
As to why we're on a week's notice, I'm not sure.

What advantage is there with monthly pay?
I think weekly pay suits RM because these salary exchange products they are trying to sell to the workforce don't look as expensive.

We are weekly paid therefore WE have to give a weeks notice. Monthly paid workers have to give a months notice.villan wrote:I assume we're paid weekly because we're on a week's notice. At least, I am.

RM have to give you "x" number of weeks notice depending on length of service.

will be horrendous if paid monthly. most weeks some of my overtime's missing and has too be put in the system the following week that in theory means at the start of a month if they don't put in your hours you could in effect wait two months for your overtime money

Clocking in/out machines would ensure that hours worked are more accurately recorded than some managers seem to manage. Shouldn't then be any need to wait forever for OT to be paid.brentford wrote:will be horrendous if paid monthly. most weeks some of my overtime's missing and has too be put in the system the following week that in theory means at the start of a month if they don't put in your hours you could in effect wait two months for your overtime money
Of course, I'm sure we can all think of plenty of people who would absolutely despise the idea of the hours they actually worked being accurately recorded!
