Part timers given full time hours
In our office the same part timer is given full time hours week in week out.i am above this person in seniority yet seldom get made up..can the management make up who they like? Can they attach a caveat to this saying you can have full time hours as long as your do not cut off...and do extra work in the afternoons?if extra hours are available should they be made available to all part timers to bid for?

If there are part timers doing FT hours every day then your union rep should be pushing for part timers to be made up to FT. The FT vacancy should be offered to the most senior part timer first. Not too sure about this one but I think your DOM should be distributing the overtime equally, rather than giving the extra hours to the same person. Perhaps a case for a grievance?

Everybody is equal, so you have as much right as everybody to do these hours. Any overtime should be posted and you can all apply for it. Obviously they are giving the hours to the same person as he will go over without them paying extra.
There are no caveats, you will find managers make it up as they go along, until you challange them.
So get on to your Rep, get on to your area Rep, go higher than that up if you do not get the correct answer to div level then Dave Ward.
Get a greivance form and put it in and argue your corner, don't give up.
You found your way here, so type in the stuff you need from downloads and use it to run rings around the management, thats all Reps do, its not rocket science, once they learn you know what you are talking about, they will back off.

Just go and tell the manager you want the extra hours if you do not ask they do not know. Its a bit crazy asking for extra hours then not expecting to have to complete.

We've just had 4 part timers made up to full time and a few of us on 20 hour contracts been bumped up to 25 hours so yeah it does happen.

There are some dodgy managers out there, so...
1. Speak to Union rep
2. Speak to DOM
3. Get a grievance in

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
