How much authority do line managers have over postmen/postwomen compared to the DOM's? Our DOM is a sound fella but our Line manager is a complete prick to say the least. Threatening behaviour towards casuals or temp contract staff. I dont know how he has got away with it for so long. I am sure it is happening all over but just wondered how much authority they really have. Cheers

Extending peoples temp contracts, giving stage warnings. He told someone if they didnt do a collection they would be in his words "out the door". A collection that was signed to a full timer but because they couldnt be bothered doing it, the temp was told do it or else.....

What does the rep have to say about this? Sounds like your boss isn't that much of a sound fella if he lets this s**t slide. Good cop bad cop?

We just got a new DOM about a month ago, so maybe he hasn't seen the worst of it yet. For ages we didn't even have a union rep in our office until last week. He however is very paly with the Line manager, coincidence??? So going to him would be a waste of time, going above his head to the area rep maybe an option!?

Going above your rep to the Area Rep is the only option. What is described is bullying.

I know that the rep in my office would blow a fuse if he even thought something like that was happening.

In answer to your statements in the order they appear
1) No authority
2) Stage warnings ,up to a point,yes
3 ) Summarily dismiss staff, without reference to proper procedure, absolutely not, nor should they be threatening people ,like that.
