Contracted hours and days

Post by VansFortress »

Hi there, i am contracted to work 30hrs per week, over 3 days (8:00 - 6:00) which at the moment is fine, but i have been told from somebody that my manager is going behind my back to change it to working 30hrs over 5 days without mentioning it to me or asking me. Can they do this? Especially considering i have other committments on my days off and can only work my 3 days, not 5. Thanks

Contracted hours and days

Get your rep involved, area rep if needed.

In essence, it depends on the wording of your contract. If the contract specifically states 3 days then its more difficult for them to do so, but not impossible. But handled incorrectly for them could lead to an Industrial Tribunal automatically finding their handling of the case as unfair.

If the contract only mentions hours, then its a lot easier for them to change your working hours without much notice.

When you see your rep you will need to use the Equality line of Family Friendly company etc.

What if the other duties in the office remain 30 hours across 3 days. Then surely the OP is being unfairly treated?

His leave calculation would have to be amended too.

Yes to both, although the leave would have minimal impact as its the same hours just different amount of days for each week.
