Scanning Specials (Again) after 1pm
Can anyone clarify the situation as regards scanning specials (both actual RM 1pm specials and international ones) for customers who may not have been in when you first tried to deliver their item(s) before 1pm but then subsequently are in or approach you for their items after 1pm? Obviously we don't give items of mail out in the street, but can we scan and deliver the items again after the 1pm deadline if approached or walking past the address and notice the recipient is now at home?

Well although frowned upon, but from experience, its the first scan that counts. If you scan before 1pm as no answer u can scan again at any time and it'll be okay as its registered that first scan was before 1.

Out of interest why do we get these daft international specials nowadays? 1/2 of them don't even need signatures,
Is it just to keep the numbers up?

As far as I'm aware we have to scan the barcodes to ensure RM gets paid for them.
It's strange how some come through with the specials in the green bag in the morning and others just mixed in with normal packets, are they all meant to be handed into the locker to be allocated to a duty?

What if a customer who you have known for many years comes up to you 'in the next street'? If you are 100% sure it's all above board,What does it matter?Response to letter in Aug 2013 Courier confirms you can do this as long as it's at the doorstep delivery point (ie not in the next street when the customer

Who is going to know? As one of the previous correspondents on this thread ,commented,"you have a happy customer",isn't that what matters?Bahia Feliz wrote:What if a customer who you have known for many years comes up to you 'in the next street'? You know your customers - linos and all the (too) many levels of management above don't - keep the customers satisfied - because management don't give a toss about customers - all they're worried about is an empty office.
At the end of the day the whole RM bullsh*t about customers is in fact ... bullsh*t - it's only us foot soldiers who actually give a damn ....

"We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...

Agree with you there but say for example the 'Special' was a currency delivery, customer got mugged 100yds down the road, came out inrubberbond wrote:Who is going to know? the local rag that 'Lady mugged for 1000 euros Special Delivery she signed for off the postie 5 minutes earlier at his van' who is going to get shafted?
Also the 'customer' is the person who paid for the SD - this may not be the recipient. The person/company who paid for the SD might not be too
happy that their SD item is being handed over in the street regardless of whether the recipient is happy or not.
Also wouldn't want to give anyone who's got it in for you any further ammo to give you grief by not following correct procedure with SD.
Also don't the new PDA's have better GPS capability to identify where scan takes place? That's why 'they' always say 'When at the delivery point scan the item.....' it gives
RM a bit more evidence that the item scan took place at the delivery point in case of customer complaints.
