Has the IT team managed to sought the signature problem on pda yet?

Just wondered if the IT team managed to sought the signature problem on pda yet as reported in last months courier ... ??

Should be an easy problem to solve being an ex programmer... have told my Lino I can help but no takers as yet ...

Why do they advocate "be brilliant, be positive, be part of it" ??

I missed the courier, what is the signature problem?

Yeah I "missed it" too, I have no problems taking signatures on the new PDA I have customers sign with the base of their finger as using a nail or the pen really doesn't work! :(

And herein lies the problem having to explain to the recipients - Don't lean on the PDA in any way with their wrists OR as to do as you suggest. Just not professional at all IMO and makes the public feel like it is their fault that they cannot sign the new PDA with the pen. In this respect they are worse than the old bricks.

Because some people are not able to i.e. elderly or the disabled, but would still like to feel they can
carry out an everyday task like signing for something without feeling awkward or feeling like a
four year old being told how to hold a pen properly.

IT must be able to ensure the only part of the screen sensitive to signature is the signature box when
it is activated, but then it will probably require a software modification, testing etc which RM will have to pay
for as no-one will have foreseen this because of course the new PDA was thoroughly tested wasn't it and
found to be perfect?

I don't find it too much of a problem but yes moving the signature box lower would help. In the callers office I use the PDA attached to the trigger device and when placed on the counter in front of the customer it keeps it at a nice angle to help stop this problem.

This. I'm always having to ask them not to rest their hand on the screen. Its irritating and totally unnecessary... you can just move the signature box to the bottom so there is no screen to rest on.

No, the old bricks had precisely the same problem ... They just had chunkier bezel which reduced the chances of it happening, mostly it only occurred to (generally old) people who managed to wrap the cable for the "pen" around their hand before attempting to sign.

But yeah, moving the signature box down the screen would cure the problem and should be a pretty easy fix.

And can they get rid of that status bar at the top. 60% of the time when I go to use my pda the slidey-down-status-bar thingy is in the way. Then for some reason it wants to write a memo. No, I never want to write a memo.

I'm more interested in when the elastic band team are going to source us some elastic bands that are fit for purpose... the latest supply in our D.O. are so small and tight they instantly snap if you try and put them round a bundle that's any more than about 1 inch thick.

The old PDAs used a resistive touchscreen i.e. you apply pressure any it registers it. The new ones are capacitve i.e. they detect electrical current. The reason why the new ones get confused is touching it at two different points on the screen confuses it and it can't process the information.

The new PDA is poor design for what we need anyway, it's oversized, it's constantly going to the wrong menu by accidentally touching one of the lower buttons, and it'll frequently mis-scan barcodes i.e. it'll make the noise it's scanned but doesn't register on screen, great when you're a half a mile from the box you thought you'd just scanned.
