We (office) are being hounded over tracked parcels. They must be delivered first time is the message being put across to posties at the moment.
At the beginning of the year DOM was congratulating the office on how well we'd done on tracked over the Christmas period. Then, in the new year, the % of first time delivery of tracked fell and has continued to drop over the year. Around February/March we were told if we are coming back early with 739d tracked he would be sending us back out to try to deliver to neighbours. This went on for some weeks until someone sent Moya an email asking whether or not this practice from management was allowed. The reply was we should be trying to deliver to neighbours when the recipient is not at home whilst on delivery but once a 739 card had been posted that was it and that DOM shouldn't be sending us back out with tracked parcels.
Last week we were told in our meeting that we are doing poorly on tracked (the % has gone down dramatically, apparently). We were told that we must try harder to get shut of tracked with neighbours to increase first time delivery %.
This leads into today where this morning the office was told that we had 95% first time delivery rate on Saturday. As we came back off delivery with one 739d tracked I was asked; what walk, address of tracked, what neighbours I tried to deliver to and why the parcel wasn't delivered to those neighbours (five neighbours tried; 4 no answer, 1 refused). This was all noted down on paper. DOM was not interested in any other parcels that had been 739d. When challenging DOM on how many neighbours he'd like me to try he says "until you get rid of it".
To me, this is becoming a first time, every time -- or else! Targets, targets, targets. I almost feel that tracked is not RMs premium service even though management still insist that Special Delivery is still RMs premium service.

Follow the over running procedure, tell him you will not have time to complete today as you will be out all day just trying neighbours and won't have time to do anything else. It's bollox, I have so many who now refuse to take them for next door, they don't mind now and then but some people it is literally every single day.

It's all to do with their bonuses , basically anything that they pull you up on it's because it's effecting them.
One of the offices local to me is failing daily but rather than deal with the core problem the posties are told , tracked , 2d , specials and laspsing are priority , the rest less so ......
I'm in a rural office so it's not practical to deliver to neighbour as you can be talking 15-20 mins back and forth

Same thing happening in my office as well, we have been told half the office staff are achieving 100% on their tracked deliveries whilst the other half which includes me are not getting 100% even if we couldn't deliver one tracked it will be brought up by the managers. It also doesn't help with the Pda's dying half way through the walk, as i didn't have an epod card with me last week i missed 5 tracked items due to this, i have also been given coaching and told i'll get one more chance if it happens again but then after that i would get a meeting with the manager for conduct which could lead to dismissal. I told them if they cannot provide tools for the job that work properly then why should i even get a coaching session as i was doing everything correctly up until their useless pda decided to die on me. unfortunately due to not having an epod card i have been brought in for coaching.

I find it quite hard to believe that anyone can achieve 100% tracked delivered through the week especially unless some are finding inventive ways to 'deliver' parcels just to be able to hit 'delivered' on the PDA. 100% is definitely do-able on a Saturday when there's more people likely to be at home to accept parcels.abzo wrote:Same thing happening in my office as well, we have been told half the office staff are achieving 100% on their tracked deliveries whilst the other half which includes me are not getting 100% even if we couldn't deliver one tracked it will be brought up by the managers. This was a priority in our office at the start of the year also. Still important now but less is said about it as we now have a slightly more relaxed DOM. Basically if you had any time left on your walk you are supposed to knock on every door in a street if need be to get rid of tracked items. However, if you work to your time and can't get rid of them you are allowed to take them back to the office.
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Hmmm
What about the many customers who have stickers on their letterboxes that were provided by the Royal Mail which explicitly states to the postman "Please return the items you can't deliver to the delivery office".
Correctly following procedure means that a 100% delivered rate should be almost impossible

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Exactly, I found it odd how they can get 100% for tracked, unless of course they have their own ways of getting them "delivered". sadly for the rest of us who couldn't achieve that 100% figure have to keep the standards up otherwise its our heads on the line.

I have had 100% for a week and sometimes two on my walk as I know who I can leave them with and where safe places are. Rest day covers have little chance as I do when I get put on other duties.madmax1 wrote:Exactly. As postmen/women we have one over-arching duty and that is the integrity of the mail. End of. If feasible you try the next door neighbour, if no joy 739 and back in the bag. Anyone achieving 100% delivery of tracked parcels cannot be doing their job properly IMO. As one unusually enlightened lino once said to me about a very speedy/overtime junky postie, who you would think was his dream employee, 'I worry about xxxx, he doesn't bring enough parcels back' !Postie45 wrote:people who are being harassed about tracked like this NEED to contact the area CWU rep, this cant be allowed to continue

simple solution is 739 every item first attempt unless you know certain neighbours are in and take them, a couple on my duty i don't even try, i just take it direct to their parents round the corner.
then if you did have a bit of spare time at the end then drive around trying again until it's time to head home.
nobody can say anything then.
