dropping down from a part-time 35 hr to a 21hr job share
i'm currently looking to drop down from a 35hr contract to a 21hr job share, but DOM as told me that because the floater that covers my day off has signed for this float i am unable to do this .any thoughts ?. i asked him if another duty could be found for my floater, his answer was the floater would have to be a spare on the day he covers my walk. which the floater was unwilling to to do.after watching a RMTV program during a WTL session a few weeks ago which show how RM go out of their way to help people how need or want flexible working looks like this isn't the case in my office. what are my options ?

Management will only agree to some form of jobshare if it benefits them in some way, otherwise you've got little chance of getting one.

Its classed as family friendly which means Royal Mail have to consider your request, but they are under no legal obligation to agree to it. There is also no collective agreement which could force their hand.vic106 wrote:i'm currently looking to drop down from a 35hr contract to a 21hr job share, but DOM as told me that because the floater that covers my day off has signed for this float i am unable to do this .any thoughts ?. i asked him if another duty could be found for my floater, his answer was the floater would have to be a spare on the day he covers my walk. which the floater was unwilling to to do.after watching a RMTV program during a WTL session a few weeks ago which show how RM go out of their way to help people how need or want flexible working looks like this isn't the case in my office. what are my options ?
Also to be blunt, if the floater is unwilling to change his duty on the day you are normally off (when on that day it is their duty not yours), then there isn't much your manager could do. To be blunt again, if you didn't prepare the ground with the floater why should they be messed about when they are getting no benefit and all the grief of being a reserve, even if just for one day.
What are your options. Well you could submit a grievance, but I don't think it would stand much chance of winning. What about going job share without including this particular day,

Would it cure it if you were floater on the day in question ?
