Just wondering if we get any extra allowance for training someone on a duty? Someone at work said we do but this person is known for diarrhea of the mouth

Training should be carried out by the workplace coaches. That is what they are paid their extra allowance for. If you are asked to carry out training, I would certainly request that you are paid the WPC allowance for that week (or at least for the days you are training).

I was asked to train somebody for a week. When I said to the D.O.M I want the allowance for it or get a WPC to do it. He looked rather surprised and said " oh right ok" Anyway I got it. For 5 days it was £34 and flumpence

Taken from the WPC agreement 2014.
3.4 On the Job Training

“On the job” training will take place during Days 2–4 at the employee’s workplace and will be led by the Workplace Coach. The approach is activity based, supported by coaching lessons and will progress at a pace that is in line with the individuals needs therefore it may continue into week 2. The 3 days are intended to build up job specific core skills by demonstration and through shadowing the Coach (or when unavailable by another experienced member of staff who would be eligible for the non-school postal training allowance in line with normal rules) on the delivery that the New Entrant will be due to perform.

Because we are so under staffed, our new starts get maybe 2-3 days out with coach's, and then flung in at deep end, usually on the worst walks with no knowledge of what to do.

Why do managers see this as fair? Shouldn't there be some kind of conditioning process, where they do half a walk for a week -or two- with WPC's?

If you aren't a WPC, and been landed with the new start on his 4th day in Royal Mail, how long are you eligible to receive training allowance, and how much even is it?
