I hope to god the union are comming and agreeing propper terms with royal mail eg getting rid of this so called.lapsing when were obviously the busiest we have ever been. Everything in black and white like the part time staff working 60 hours a week and being on 24 hour contracts we pay our union fees lets see a propper union agreement please one in which has to be followed not like the one we undertook saying hours worked to be reviewed every 6 months and nothing actually happen

the problem does not iay with the union . if say a 24 hour contract is taken the person will not turn down the overtime for two reasons. 1 he needs the hours 2 he knows if he doesent do it someone else will. if the men at the unit did not do it then the union could push it through for more hours .its a rat race and thats how it will be until units stick together. which is never going to happen so dont keep smashing on about the union. its the members who are to blame not taking breaks not having wtl meetings not using trollys coming in early finishing early grabbing overtime. with no thought for the part timers thats were the problems are union blaming is the biggest cop out in royal mail

Lapsing was agreed to fill hours in the day during quiet times. In the summer for example, generally the mail volumes drop and we used to finish a bit earlier so they come up with lapsing to fill our hours and protect jobs. Trouble is RM just collapse duties now and tag them onto your duty and that is your lapsing, they don't look at the figures and say nope it's too heavy and the mugs in the job just come in even earlier and run even faster to finish 5 minutes early.. and breathe!

We are the Union, we have the power to change things through solidarity. Do not come in early. Do not skip meal relief. Use equipment and work safely as directed. Work all paid hours and do not got over your contract hours. If everyone did this RM would be up sh1t creek and would be forced to make workloads achieveable again.

There are too many people who do not understand why the managers lapse. It used to be done in the summer when the mail volumes dropped , by doing so more leave slots would be opened. However these days managers are lapsing walks in order to meet their budgets, if their budgets are met they receive a healthy bonus. If we all , like I do , use the equipment supplied , work our correct hours , and work in a safe manner, ie , not taking short cuts , not pulling walks out in an improper way in order to finish early , etc. We will have our workload reduced , it's a no brainer. Unfortunately there are too many people who just don't get it. That's why lapsing is in place.
