Hello dear, thought you'd read this! Just get rid of my 5 lino's . What do they do? We can get by with the DOM,Undermanager, dom support, rle staff, counter staff and coaches just fine, all these lino's do is watch us sorting and print silly lapsing sheets .
Nothing is getting done here re: the overdue revision,van repairs, office repairs etc. Omg they can't even order enough 739's or laggy bands!
This probably sounds like MOST offices , think of the savings to be made if these people were put back on delivery when others retire etc. rant over for now!

I agree. Getting of the managers will save money but will it make our life any easier??


Do line managers agree with lapsing?? After all, its them that have to deal with short term problems in moving staff around and finding cover when staff haven't got time to do it; to the extent of doing it themselves. And Im quite sure that their little 10% bonus is dwarfed by that of the DOM, who is in charge of the office budget!!

Maybe you won't get so much grief if a workplace coach is in charge. But there is one thing that you can be absolutely sure of with more work coaches : more lapsing!! Because WPCs seem to be managing AND doing deliveries!

Not all managers are a waste of space just a lot of them. To be fair I'd rather a small number of decent managers than no managers at all. Sadly there are still many piss takers in the job and without a decent set of managers kicking them up the arse the whole office suffers. Clear out the dead wood by all means but keep a few decent ones just to grease the wheels a little!

I just can't understand why RM are so obsessed with making ruthless and excessive efficiency savings in certain areas of the business (deliveries/delivery staff) whilst other areas of the business still look like something out of the 1970's and the days of Red Ken with 2-3 people doing the work of one person?

Never worked, long time, in a DO that had a surplus of Managers. Maybe my Area's short of them? We normally only have the one and often he has to disappear to a nearby DO to sort their problems. We did have a case of 3 fairly small DOs having a rotating manager that covered all three.

I believe there's probably enough work to keep the one DOM busy but when you hear on this forum of DOs (probably much larger) with 4 or 5 managers just walking about it's quite a surprise. Do RM not have a specific ratio of Mangers to Posties?

Workplace Coaches are there to help if someone doesn't know how to do something. Unfortunately most of the coaches in my office are mainly the DOM's mates and runners being kept sweet with a bit of extra money every week for doing nothing apart from occasionally encouraging new starters to come in early, run around and use their car.

They're not there to dictate what work I do. The last one who tried got put straight on his actual role within RM very swiftly

You're right CS that's not their job. I was asked to train a Newbie up on a New Duty. I asked the DOM if that wasn't what the WPC was for. If not what are they getting an extra £30 a week for? I said it wasn't my job to train Newbies up and get the WPC to do it!

We had a New DOM turn up who didn't even realise that they got paid extra (as most Posties don't). As you mentioned, at some time in the past they were the Current DOMs favourite and bagged the job. Nice little £1500 a year extra for doing what? Apologises if you're a hard working, productive WPC who actually contributes to the Office Efficiency but you're few,and far between my friends!
