Can you still get Special/Casual leave when you go to hospital for a consultation with the surgeon on your forth pending operation? or do you have to book it as a holiday(annual leave)?

As these consultants only hold certain surgery times and at the discretion of your line manage he/her may allow this as " other time off" paid as it is an isolated appointment leading to surgery and this situation in other offices has been allowed under paid leave so a precedent has been set. Failing that a duty swap with a colleague or an agreement for RM to recover your time off at a later date. My personal view is that your holiday entitlement should not have to be used in these circumstances. If you were on another shift pattern as other colleagues have then they would not have to disturb their annual leave.

My understanding is and this is because of co-workers who have had appointments, they cant stop you going but they don't have to pay you.

They should try a number of things such as changing you rest day, changing your shift pattern etc. If none of these are possible or practical the consideration would be given to special leave A (with pay)
