Special duty?
Hi all, Hoping some one out there can help with this, I'm an MGV reserve driver and have been performing a special duty on an early shift for almost two years, attracting an allowance. The only times over the past two years I've not been on this duty is when I've been on nights, attracting a bigger allowance. Is there a period of time when the special duty becomes a duty and would that allowance then become an assigned allowance?

Special duty?
I am wondering why as a reserve MGV driver covering this special duty for almost 2 years why it has not been advertised as a vacant duty? MGV duties are covered by professional drivers who have competed the 5 modules for their CPC authorisation card and the allowances are in accordance with the shift patterns involved.trojan wrote:Hi all, Hoping some one out there can help with this, I'm an MGV reserve driver and have been performing a special duty on an early shift for almost two years, attracting an allowance. That's exactly what I'm trying to find out should this special duty have been made a full time duty and advertised?rehabron wrote:I am wondering why as a reserve MGV driver covering this special duty for almost 2 years why it has not been advertised as a vacant duty? Special duty?
Sorry but it is how you are phrasing your question. ( 1) what makes this duty a special duty? (2) is this duty not a full time duty comprising of 40 hours? (3) does the duty come under professional drivers ? (4) if (2) and (3) is applicable then should have been advertised under the criteria of the professional drivers agreement 2007 ( 5) why was this duty not advertised having remained vacant for over 6 months? this question should have been put to management by the union. There are other factors why this " special" duty has remained vacant but surely not only you but other colleagues from within your resourcing unit should have been enquiring this through your local union rep.trojan wrote:That's exactly what I'm trying to find out should this special duty have been made a full time duty and advertised?rehabron wrote:I am wondering why as a reserve MGV driver covering this special duty for almost 2 years why it has not been advertised as a vacant duty? Despite my badly written post you've given me all the info I was after.
1) it's a special duty as that's what managers call it. 2) yes it's a full time 40hr duty but only done by me, it's lapsed when I'm on leave. 3) it' does come under professional drivers of which I'm one. 4) both applicable. 5) I'm off to see my Rep in the morning.
Thanks again.

Just a reminder if and not knowing your position in the seniority list for your function this duty if successful in having it now advertised you may lose out to a colleague more senior to you even if your posting suggests that you seem to be the only one who picks up the "special" duty. You may be the No.1 reserve or a super numero that determines you are always selected for this duty. The fact that you have filled this "special" duty for almost 2 years will be to your advantage as the recognised duty holder and this point you must make to your union rep.
