We are about to start a repick in our office. I have lost my duty in the revision. As the Union seems to be in charge of the repick, and as senior man they are pestering me to pick a duty. But we have not given the opportunity to view the duties. I suspect he has been pressurized to implament the pick before a new DOM is place. Is there a prodcedure when a pick takes place? I would like to know because some of the duties have different shift patterns and would like time to study them. CAN I STOP THE PICK?

Firstly you have mentioned in your post " we are about to start a repick in our office" so when is the repick to commence. The revised duties should be made available at least one month before implementation in order that employees on annual leave, long term sick leave have been notified. Depending on the numbers involved in the repick and this yo be completed within a reasonable time then the advanced viewing of duties gives you the opportunity to select several duties that may be of interest to you and when it is your time to select what duties you have considered there may be still several or one on your list. Can you stop the pick? Having not seen the new duties that are available then the answer is yes but employees in a more senior position than you would be having the same argument on not having the new duties displayed.

A Repick is a serious event. The Results of which you may have to live with for many years.

There's no way your manager/union rep should be rushing it.

Last Revision we had, all the "New" duties were put up on the wall so everyone could have a good look, and plenty of time to choose several (as rehabron mentioned). Sods Law says if you set your heart on one particular duty, the next most senior guy will take it!

Once we'd started to pick which duty we wanted we had to stop several times. Mainly due to the next senior guy being on leave. We weren't allowed to progress until he'd had his pick.

What really seemed to stir things up the most was the introduction of Van Shares. Some fairly senior guys avoided some of the "Easier" duties because of the partners they'd end up with. In effect waiting until their less senior mate picked a duty, and then choosing to work with him! It got pretty confusing at times.

I believe the biggest cock up came later. We were told these "New" duties would be given a period of time (can't remember how long) to "Bed In" then they'd be looked at again. Some "Fine Tuning" would then be carried out to adjust for those duties deemed Too Long or Too Short. Guess what? It never happened!

some Posties are chuffed to nuts (because they've got a short/easy duty) others are not so happy (sadded with longer/harder duties which are IMPOSSIBLE to complete within time.
