Local Arrangements / agreements

Post by dogfood »

Any change in duty that the management impose upon is always answered with "Local Arrangements" when we ask if the changes have been negotiated with the CWU.

Where can we see the full text of the "Local Arrangements"? We never see them and no discussion ever takes place between us and the union. The only discussion with management is to be told what the extra workload is.

This point has been a long standing argument when changes are made and management answer is a " local Agreement". The best route for this is to put your enquiry direct to your local or area rep to find out what " local agreement" they have agreed to either direct or at a union meeting where the membership is in attendance. If there are " local agreements" in force then a record will have been kept and signed off by the CWU. Remember it is not necessary for the union to hold a meeting of the membership to cast a vote to accept or reject a management proposed change that differs from a national agreement to fall under a " local agreement" because the membership have voted the union representative in that position which gives them the authority to agree or revoke the changes without consultation with the membership. A union rep should be able to establish the severity of the consequences from deviating from a national agreement and come to a decision if in the situation the membership need to be notified.

I would love to know what 'local agreements' have been made in our office!! Methinks that our management have been grooming our rep and schooling him into their way of thinking.

We (the Union members) don't even know the half of what has been agreed and what hasn't. For all we know, he might have agreed to lose our meal reliefs/break times and statutory sick pay. The sort of things that are 'nationally' agreed??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
