New PDAs monitoring

Hi

In our office today all staff found out that management are monitoring all postman by using the gps feature on the new PDAs.

The can measure speed, where your scanning parcels, if your scanning parcels and if not more.

This caused a huge argument between our union rep and Lino. Right in front of all us posties too.

Anyone heard of this their office?

Management should not be using that item on the PDAs, it sounds like the thing managers are using is called Breadcrumbs and it does all the things you have said.

You can turn this off, its on the navigation, its signified by a little man walking, its usually in the bottom right corner, click on it and then make sure its unticked in the box by it, you might have to click on the menu in navigation twice to get to it, but you should get to it.

What about the camera that's recording who's signing for the parcel ? Signature not recorded if camera lens covered up !

If they have time to do that all day then they are a waste of money, maybe bring it up at the next shareholders meeting and offload some of them.

They can monitor all they like, but managers cannot solely use the breadcrumbs feature for disciplinary action.

If they spot a pattern of OPGs doing something suspicious, as far as I'm aware, they need to catch OPGs in the act by seeing the whole situation in person.

Breadcrumbs can be used to OPGs' advantage, if you are on a ridiculously oversized round, deliver in the correct manner and show them that the workload is unachievable without cutting corners.

Yes,
We've heard they're monitoring between which times items are scanned, if not where we are at any time, so that's no problem for those of us that can't finish on time and it should sort out those who can regularly finish early.

They could monitor between scans on the old PDA so no shock there, the breadcrumbs item is more in depth, but should not be used because it hasn't been agreed with CWU, just turn it off.

It is my reading of the situation that the network supplier EE cannot cope with the amount of data the live tracker sends (a ping every 4/5 seconds) and as a result only a select few delivery offices at any one time can be fully monitored.

A couple of KB every 5 minutes would give very accurate and nearly up top date readings. Or just store it all and download it on wifi back at the office.
