Bringing mail back

What's the procedure with bringing mail back? Never had to do it before.

Got a bit of hassle this morning when we refused to lapse. Ended up taking it out but said we'd bring loops back if we were struggling. I think the manager thought we were kidding.
Anyway, we phoned in at half one to say we'd have to bring the last two loops back but no one answered. Phoned the line managers as well mobile but it was off too.

Me and my partner are both off tomorrow so we're expecting some angry calls in the morning having just dumped the remaining mail back on the frame.

sounds like you did the right thing, you warned them thats the most important thing

I would say you did the right thing nd that's one of there ploys to try and put you off but you will have a record of the times and calls on your mobile log , if he rings you just tell him its your day off and we can have the conversation tomorrow when I'm back with a cwu rep present , don't get into an argument over the phone or better still don't answer it , its great this summer lapsing , lol.

Make sure you keep the call log on your mobile, that will prove you called at the times you said. I'm sure your DOMs boss would be happy knowing he has buggered off home early and he has not reported a USO failure.

sometimes when people leave mail in our office the manager tells staff to leave it in the frame and sometimes it's still there the next day, are they even allowed to do that?

yes as long as they report it in the DODR (Del Office Daily Report)

Sounds like you followed procedure. Was the managers phone switched off because they were in a 'meeting' perhaps?

Whatever. For next time, if you ever have to bring any mail back make sure that you leave it in the managers office (preferably on their desk). That way they will know that the mail hasn't been delivered 1st thing when they arrive for work in the morning.

Manager was a bit annoyed with us today but it was a better response than i was expecting, haha!

Turns out they phoned me to see if i could come in to cover since a few people phoned in sick
