scheduled saturdays and unfair treatment

Post by rumble1234 »

What's the story with this .in our office only firms and rural drivers get this .extra money for working a sat and most of there calls are closed.I'm not trying to take money from anyone's pocket and I like all my workmates but the postmen work like hell and get nothing. We get 1 in six Saturdays off while they get more and they do only 2 hours walking. I'm sick and tired of being treated like an underclass in my office . The reps a driver so I suspect he's doing dodgy deals with the gaffer to keep himself and a few others on good shifts while the rest of us get less money less sat off and more work. How can this be right.

scheduled saturdays and unfair treatment

One thread is enough please

To be honest, without more details its difficult to comment because what you describe could be unfair, it could also be okay and above board.

If you mean scheduled attendance on Saturdays because they have merged 2 or 3 or more duties into 1 or 2 on a Saturday and they take turns. This could be okay if they have followed the agreement - advertising etc. In fact, this is the kind of thing that RM have suggested, 3 duties done on Mon - Friday as normal and then on Saturday merge them so you can lapse one or more. Locally they may have agreed instead of lapsing offering it on SA but to see if its fair you would have to see the local arrangement and how they implemented it.

If they aren't doing it as SA and they are doing it between themselves then there MAY be an issue. But that's not what you have described.

Of course, the problem of Saturday SA being offered is if you are on a 1 - in 6 you'll still have to do your full week and do a Saturday SA when its your turn, in effect you could have 11 days with only a Sunday off.

It may not have been offered to 1 - 6 staff because they won't have the capacity to cover the duty every Saturday.

Cheers mate .sorry I posted this twice I thought I'd deleted the other one. I'm pretty sure it's a local agreement done behind doors .supposedly we voted for it but that never happened. No doubt if I enquire more I'll end up like Jimmy hoffa

scheduled saturdays and unfair treatment

There are lots of firms or support van duties which due to Saturday retentions have either every Saturday off or 1 in 2 Saturdays off with some SA attached to cover what work there is too do on a Saturday.

You need to state whether these individuals have this on their duty if so they are doing nothing wrong.
