Driving - Collections - Dash board cam

I just started doing Collections, my round is in the countryside and the spacing of times is very tight and I did miss a postbox today and got the DOM on me, so is there any royal mail policy that prohibits the use of a dashboard camera that I could use to record my own times? I could use a mobile app and leave it in the pocket but a Dash board cam could help with any car conflicts i have in the lanes.

What do you think?

Missed a postbox? They can be scanned late just not early.

And no you can't record on RM property without permission, so worth asking.

You could use a cheap GPS computer such as a garmin edge 200 - they record a GPS track of where you've been which you can then upload to either the garmin website or strava, and it puts the GPS track on a map showing where you were at any given moment during the track. Just be aware, they also record the speed you were travelling at.

its MUCH better to be late to a collection than to miss it completely. If youre consistently late then the DOM will probably have to do something about the duty itself.

If your vehicle has a box in Trimble will record where you are at all times including post code ! It records your speed and how long you have stopped ! Equally there is the facility for the DOM to view you in the vehicle. However the CWU have agreed that this should be switched off. You can ask too see your Timble results if this helps !

If you miss a box how did you clear it off your pda, you miss them you drive back to the box and scan it, even if you miss the lorry it has to be done. Timings can be tight but should be possible without driving like a lunatic.

Dashcams would be a great thing to have in our vans i have one in my car. The boxes are hopefully going to stop the dangerous drivers and are very good the sooner all vans have them the better.

the boxes were my fault, kinda day 1 of driving and I not missed one since, although i did scan early... think i broke all the rules last week.

My mate also does a driving job elsewhere for another company, he has been cut up, sworn at and been put in many dangerious situations, that would be my justification. Where I drive in country lanes I have met a few tractors and cars already but brakes are good on the vans.

The point is the blame game, simple as
