have the union forgotten about him? has it been kicked into the long grass?.....its been dragging on for far too long. poor bloke is going to be forced to break into his money award. whats going on?

Yes - thats exactly what I think is the plan here. The more time goes by with no activity the more we are all stuffed.

Yeah that's the Royal Mail way, leave it long enough and all will be forgotten, a bit like the grievance procedure at ours currently.

That didn't happen with the REM11 case, they persued for years after the 11 staff were sacked and Royal Mail thst it would be over bar the shouting, it was the longest industrial tribunal ever that I know of, the RM lawyers kept postponing the case until they were forced to attend court, in the end RM folded and agreed to reinstate the staff unfortunately some have died along the way and some got jobs elsewhere, very few were reinstated in their original jobs but all git compensation.

It goes to prove if you're right, you will get your justice however long it takes.

It was an industrial dispute involving engineers in Midlands on 1988, from what I recall there was 11 engineers and they tend to do job and knock, in some cases finishing much earlier, Royal Mail decided to sack them for fraud in claiming pay when not actually being present for work.

Royal Mail thought that was the end of it, except CWU took Royal Mail industrial tribunal, since Royal Mail's case was weak from the start their lawyers keeps postponing the tribunal in the hope CWU would give up as it is financially draining to keep solicitors on pay, very often the case could be cancelled minutes before they were due to enter the chamber, using various spurious reasoning, Royal Mail was prepared to throw money at it to prevent CWU winning, in the end it took a change of management to come to some settlement due to the passage of time, some of them died without seeing justice others who got jobs since got compensation only a few took up the offer of reinstatement.

I have tried to find it in CWU archives but no luck, so all the information above are from memory so I cannot claim it's 100% recall as it was nearly 28 years ago give or take.

The REM 11 were Workings in the old Rems what used to be called Cashco or Cash in Transit.

They were from London and were wrongly sacked and the then UCW fought to get their Jobs back ! Their old Branch secretary Moss Hayley RIP was inspirational in getting them justice along with the then LDC and the PEC including Alan Tuffin. The Post Office management attempted the biggest cover up ever but justice was made. If you want information on this than contact the research dept at CWU HQ.
