Cancelling post vans

Our Delivery Office has Postmen coming in early for S/A throwing off walk sorted on P/T rounds but Gatwick just lately have been cancelling the early van , not sure if its down to lack of drivers or another reason.
So the people who come in early are being paid S/A for doing nothing . Also the F/T staff today only had a few mailsort and flats to throw off until the 7.45 van.
Maybe it will save Gatwick's coffers by cutting the early van but surely RM are shooting themselves in the foot because our Office budget will take a hammering with cut offs and no lapsing taken.
There is no prior warning of the cancellation of the van and seems a bit ridiculous to me.
When the van does turn up it leaves the F/T to throw off both rounds walksorted at 7.45 when usually the P/T walksorted is thrown off by the S/A and the F/T thrown off at 6.15

You make the mistake of thinking Royal Mail uses Common Sense Eastie...... It seems that so often some decision just seems to made by some accountant sharpening his pencil....... often with unintended consequences ...... "Spending a Pound to save a Penny"!
