Ill Health Retirement Question

Hi all, my duty partner has just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in his hips and is currently waiting on a consultation with atos. He seems pretty sure that the specialist he saw has recommended that he is no longer fit enough to do the delivery side of the job.
He's been badgering me to find out if anyone on here has any idea of the criteria used to calculate a potential ill health retirement pay offer.
Think he has approx. 14 years service and is on a full-time 39 hour contract.
He also seems to think that if offered a pay-off he'd also be able to cash in his shares immediately without paying tax on them.
Any advice on these issues would be appreciated.

34 weeks pay plus
12 weeks PILON

Plus shares yours to dispose of as u wish without being liable for income tax or NI.....however might be liable for Capital gains tax check with an accountant.

It might take couple of months to happens then he can get the first bunch of shares in time. But it will be taxed.

I thought the sum paid could not exceed 2 years salary, thought I saw it quoted on here somewhere
