04 pmOk I'm working with a 20 hr postman today, he goes off for a toilet break during which I get ahead a few loops now we get to near finish time and he still has two loops to do and I am finished, he asks manager if he can cut off "he says no. And postie accepts that he must complete.I tell manager that I want to work to time and somebody needs to come and pick him up. I'm driver by the way, he then tells me I have to stay as its a partnership andif he has two loops I have two loops and starts going on about cut off precedure even when nobody' was cutting off, and is he right to force me into overtime just because im the driver, by the way there was two managers in the office when we got back who could of picked him up. Is there anything I can do?as I will speak to rep on monday.

2 loops in front of him because he had a toilet break ? you using lwts ? m/r ? by the way the dim is right there is a cut off procedure you have to tell them before you leave the office that you might be unable to complete and your only working yours contracted hours , I'm the driver and when we work to our time we take a loop back each and I don't dump them on the street and go back.

I did state he accepted he had to complete I had finished and wanted to work to time he refused to come and pick walker up who only had mail my question is why should I have to work past my time when im finished and two managers have refused to pick up the walker who by the way was going slow deliberately thinking I would get left with his cut off expecting somebody to pick him up at two oclock

Would you have preferred he went sick and left you with all of it. Seriously though, think you'll struggle to get any sympathy. If u contacted manager straight away as soon as you realised there was an issue, then rep could question that. But to say you've done you're loops so you shouldn't have to wait, or help, don't think you'll win that argument.

He went sick the day before and I did the whole double duty by myself, now is there anybody who can awnser my question a rep hopefully and not some clown, can a manager make a driver extend when he is finished and the walker is not when the walker has already stated he wants to go home at two becouse there finish time is different from mine 1500 as royal mail are too tight to give pt a proper contract bearing in mind they let every tom dick or harry walker just tell a driver im going home ive done my time without going back to the do

No need to call someone a clown just because he has a different opinion.

Also if you want a rep to help you need to give more complete information.

You say you had finished, but also stated he wanted to finish at 2pm when your finish time is 3pm.

If he finished at 2pm and you were due to finish at 3 then no you can't cut off. He can, at 2pm.

Anyone can cut off at the end of their working day, as long as they follow the cutting off procedure and inform the manager as soon as they see there may be a problem. The agreement states if you take mail out, you are usually expected to deliver it all. However, there is also a section about cutting off after delivery commences, him falling sick would cover this and one of you should have contacted the office at that point, not at his/your finish time.

He can't force you into overtime, no one can. But you have to follow the procedure and if his finish time is earlier than yours then yes they can tell you to do the walkers work up to your finish time.

Basically my office runs on overtime, reserves are expected to complete a delivery on ot as there finish time would be 1:30 when they cant be bothered to complete ie sat they ring the office up to be picked up at that time. He rang them three times at 12 and they blanked him he txt manager that morning say he would work until 14:00 I have no problem working to time. II'm more concerned for future ref that im being told that im responsible for the full workload when if the boot was on the other foot the walker would just go home

are the duties timed for 1 person to finish an hour earlier? because that's a decent amount of time to try and lump on the other, it'd be around 3 extra loops on my duty
you ought to bring that up with your rep present as i'd be shocked if it was originally planned on those times

No all duties have same planned finish time its just the reserves cannot complete a delivery in there contracted hrs without ot. They are all 20hrs and on five days a week instead of making there hrs fit the duties, our new rep is pretty decent and is trying to get all reserves up to 27.5 but the doms not having it, hence when a reserve feels like it they can finish before us we either get lumbered with there mail or we get delayed waiting for somebody who fancies ot taking us past our time ive lost count the amount of times uve been back out to help somebody who has been shafted.

i wouldn't class it as "their mail"
either way, if 1 day bill & ben, both ft set off out at 10am giving them 10hrs to complete, next day tom & dick also get out at 10am but dick finishes at 2pm giving them 9hrs to complete the exact same amount, hence before you leave the office you leave 1hrs worth in, more if tom has to drive dick back to d/o for 2pm
the onus needs to put on your dom before leaving the office if dick won't work an hour o/t, the mail shouldn't go out if you know it won't get delivered by you,
as for waiting for it to collected? tell the to collect it at 3 from d/o!

"Feels Like", I hope you meant "when a reserve exercises his right to finish on time" because if not you are causing the same problem for the reserves as the managers are for you. Everyone has a legal and contractual right not to do overtime, its their choice, as it is yours. Read up on the "Overrunning Deliveries" procedure and educate the masses. If you all follow it the manager can't isolate individuals and put pressure on them, and that means reserves may have their contracts changed. Will it be easy - No? Will the managers overreact - obviously? But if you stick it out, both you and the reserves will be winners.
