Put wrong fuel in van and had to get it drained 18 years and never had any previous for mistakes now think i have to get serious warning for 12 month , now i know this is happening up and down the country just would like to know the outcome for some see how different each area /office is , I am a ex rep and not the quietest of people and feel maybe this is their chance to do me over a bit .

Been told i will get a serious 12 month warning mate thats why I am asking not sure if this maybe a personal thing or a standard procedure they are making out if dsm gets involved it will be worse and they are doing me a favour , i think they are bit harsh but i did make a huge mistake that cost money .

Take it you put unleaded in a diesel?

How much did you fill it before you realised? A small amount wouldn't have posed any problem really, in cold climates they often do it to keep the fuel mix from freezing.

To be fair a worse situation would have been driving it away and breaking down. As you didn't start the engine nothing really happened.

Cost to RM would have been zero (apart from an unused tank of unleaded  ) as they have a contract with RAC and there was no damage to the van. A 12 month serious is overreacting in my opinion.

Think the cost is £210 from rac and the cost of the tank of unleaded so thats the reason about the serious warning , I am just trying to see if they actually have a standard for this or is it Dom / Dsm who will decide

Just remind them it was an unintentional human error and first incident, you should not be conducted for this.

From the conduct code
Royal Mail Group recognises that genuine
mistakes and misunderstandings do occur and
it is not our intention that such cases should
be dealt with under the Conduct Policy beyond
informal discussions for the isolated instance.

You will not be the first or the last to put the wrong fuel into a van but you noticed your mistake before driving off and causing further damage to the vehicle other than having the tank emptied and cleaned. This is a genuine mistake and as stated you have 18 years service and an unblemished record then as an ex union rep you will be aware that this will be taken into consideration when assessing the punishment which at the most should be counselling or a rap across the knuckles. You will have the right of appeal which can uphold, reduce or revoke the decision so if you feel that you are being victimised by the penalty this appeal will be heard by an independent appeals manager reviewing the case so well worthwhile if required to appeal the decision. Managers make mistakes everyday that costs the company thousands not £210 so you maybe worrying yourself needlessly. Let us know how this is progressing if you wish.

I've got to say, that is a f***ing joke.

30 min job to drain tank. No harm done.
Everyone can make a simple mistake - and when they are far from catastrophic (as this one was), then surely its better for the overall morale of the workforce, to do the right thing and let it go.

To err is human, but to forgive is divine.

To err is human.

I have found in this business that something will crop up that your office will suddenly need the services of a driver and if this occurs while your ban is still active and they ask you to drive then I hope you know what to reply.

Yep they can go do it themselves i will not drive whilst on ban ,i know it will cause them more s**t than me thats why i argued AGAINST a 12 month warning for this as it will hurt them too :nana
