The following is intended to update you on a few issues !

1. Royal Mail and CWU are reviewing the industrial stability part of the Agenda for Growth element due to the number of local industrial action ballots and the CWU evidence that some managers are not abiding by national agreements. The former ACAS chief facilitator Peter Harwood will carry out the review.

2. Following the recuirtment and Resoucing joint statement last month there has been significant progress in some divisions with regards to recuirtment and with part timers having increases in their contracted hours. However there is still a number of issues as Royal Mail in some units are saying if we are now recruiting to fill the vacancy how do we know once we fill all the jobs in the unit that we will need the part timer to be working more hours as they may well be working the extra hours due to the current vacancies. So in some areas there is still a problem !

3. Royal Mail have written to the CWU wanting to remove certain duties patterns from the menu of options. It is clear they do not want 4 day weeks , 9 day fortnights or Wallington plus duties. The CWU have totally rejected this proposal.

4. Royal Mail and CWU went to mediation over the merging jacket. Well it was not really mediation as the CWU have maintained that we are not going to agree to the jacket. Royal Mail in the end proposed a door to door satchel or bag.

5. They want to trail this outdoor bag in Wasall so they merge their door to door on the street and not sort into a frame.

6. This will mean that no work in Wasall is sorted into frames and this is the key to Royal Mail's plan as they do not want any sorting into frames as work will be done in one wave and d2d merged on the street. By not sorting into frames you can remove frames and close delivery offices and merge them into bigger offices. It also means that you transfer some indoor work to outdoor and longer spans.

7. Royal Mail want to extend the trail in Wasall to all the walks rather than the current 12.

8 Royal Mail also want to move to one wave on a further 600 walks in the UK.

9. Royal Mail want too trail data capture in a number of units. They also claim that the black box in the CDV vans have allowed them to understand the time some finish already or at least when the van is either parked back in a unit or outside a different address.

10. It is expected that Royal Mail will announce the consultation process on closing the DB pension scheme in the next few weeks. The average age of the DB scheme ag is 49 and the hit on pensions will be massive if they changed to the DC scheme. Remember if they close the scheme after 2018 all the material you have received up too now won't be worth the paper it is written on.

This next 12 months is going to be massive ! There is only one force which can stop or change what Royal Mail want to do and it's is the CWU with the backing of the members ! The CWU are not perfect and there is many faults but let's be clear individuals and non union members are not going to stop Royal Mail from what they want only the union will have a chance !

But we won't.

Too many think this stuff is "inevitable", even "sound business sense". Too many thinking they are clever cos they understand the decisions of a fund manager - but really its nothing more than Stockholm Syndrome

We need to wake up - we are being shafted. We won't get through it unless we have some balls and stick together and stand up together united.

Why is it that every proposal RM puts out there, in regard delivery methods, wilfully ignores parcels? They seem to have a blind-spot when it comes to packets, which is strange at it is one of their most financially beneficial services. Doing away with sorting frames? So parcels will be walk-sorted as well then? Can't wait to see the machine they dream up for that endeavour.

Most of this sounds like made-up guff from the union, to scare members

so how would you prep your loose mail in some type of order before going out ? and how would you sort your increasing pkts and parcels as you do now small ones you can get in the frame and normal size on top into your loops before tying up , can you see this from oct onwards it would be an utter joke , p&l delivery so you will be pushing a lwt and carrying a bundle of mail as we do now and carrying a bag of some sort with d2ds , trying to merge your d2ds , trying to sort your loose mail into your sequenced mail and this would save time ,oh and we only have 2 hands , I think they need to give there heads a bang or get some of the big wigs to show us how its done.

oh just another thing didn't they say d2ds would come in the sequenced mail as well , change of plan already , hhmmm , I don't believe a word that royal mail say and never will.

So possibly a bag with 6 D2D in for merging as we go . . . And another bag with mail and all the small loose packets which would normally be slotted in with the mail. No trolley because of delivery to blocks of flats . . . . Should be interesting . .

Between the above three I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of walk sequencing for parcels (or at least walk sorted)

using all the delivery methods tied in with their new proposals it will take 6hrs to complete about 50 doors

The YouTube video above,shows letters,flats and packets that are virtually FLAT, most Chinese packets are small but bulky and what about box shapes didn't see any of them on that fancy machine...
Another question regarding one wave, in my office we have a number of firms who pay to have their mail by 7.45 how will that happen if the mail doesn't arrive before 8 am?

More like 9 or even 10 am

On an average day one wave will probably mean to much for a CSS machine to do in one hit so to get all of the mail for a batch sequenced your probably looking at an 1h, maybe more for busier offices so if a CSS machine has got 10 batches you could be potentially looking at 10hrs to do the sequencing, which probably wouldn't be started until around 05:00 as that's typically when inward sort plans will be finished.

By that time of the day iLSMs and IMPs might not be available to run sequencing as they might be running 2C or running inward DSA or Mailsort plans

I don't think the cwu would be stupid enough to go back to carrying bags , mind you I don't care cause I wont carry a bag again , plenty on sick with back problems etc . lol

Only 6 D2D? My walk has had a number of weeks this year with 7, in an affluent area with "Victorian" letterboxes that gets a high call rate and many parcels that turn into attendance calls... And they wonder why I often choose to either finish at my time by doing ~75% of the delivery, or do ~25% on overtime!

Can you imagine the fun of collating D2D from a bag in the pouring rain?
