ANYONE BEEN ON JURY SERVICE?

Hi,
anyone been called up for jury service, start mine monday but dont know if i get paid or not?
Got a claims form from court for loss of earnings do i give this to gaffa to fill in for payroll.
Keep hearing different things, nobody to ask at work, seems i am first one to be called up in our office.
How does it work, would be grateful to hear from anyone that as been through this.

I did jury service a few years ago for 2 weeks, from memory included in all the information they send is an earnings form which you need to take with you, it has to be completed by your manager stating what hours you are on and what any losses will be. I think if your a full timer you will be just paid as normal by Royal Mail and they claim back from the court. You need the form for any overtime etc you can claim from courts if your part time.

Once picked for actual jury service there is a meal allowance paid by the courts for each day you are on the jury, about a fiver a day you don't have to use the canteen you can take your own dinner and claim, I was refunded all my unused meal allowance. But they will explain all this once you are picked. It's a long process on the first day and lots of waiting around so take something to read.

Yes you will be paid but not from RM. Your form should have been sent to HR Sheffield for the jury service team who would have returned the form direct to you rubber stamped by them showing your daily loss of earnings. This would then be multiplied by the total amount of days you are in court on jury service. The form would be stamped on arrival at court and then stamped on the final day. On completion of the form by the court the form is then taken to the local Procurator Fiscal office and you will be given a choice if you want payment by cheque or direct to your bank. Normally should receive payment in 2 weeks. As your jury service starts on Monday you should have been in possession of your form returned by HR by know so you will need to chase.

I've done jury service before. Just got paid as normal by Royal Mail. Only thing I had to claim was the meal allowance.
Good luck, it's certainly an eye opening experience and not always in a good way.

Has there been any clarification on what happens if you are on a Wallington Week rota and your jury service falls on what should be your week off, or you should be doing a 6-day Wally Week and jury service is only a 5-day week?

You will be paid as normal. Whoever does your pay will need to send off the relevant forms to head office. At the end of your service you fill in an expenses sheet and after a week or two you will receive a cheque. After your service the relevant department from RM will send you a request form as they will need to know what you have been paid. The court cheque will be for earnings and expenses and it will be made payable to you. Your earnings will need to be repaid and they will offer you several options on how quickly you pay it back as it will be deducted out of your weekly pay. It's something like anything from three weeks to ten weeks I think, it's up to you how quickly you want to pay it back. Your expenses for travel and lunches you get to keep. In this respect you are actually better off than if you were working those two weeks.

Done Jury service twice in the last three years. Lots of waiting around but a far more interesting experience than delivering crap through doors that's for sure and a lot less knackering, enjoy it while you can!

Not sure about wally week but I suppose you could go back to work Saturdays? If it's your week off you should be able to get it back as annual leave.
