Full time walks becoming part time walks

When someone full time leaves or retires from our unit the walk they were on becomes a part time duty. The partner of that duty ( if it's P&L) then double preps until p/t worker comes in. Is this happening everywhere?

wouldn't mind that happening at our place.

near 4 years on p&l ive always had a part time partner....always had to prep 3 walks as well.
mine....his and a 3rd in the office.

we have 75% full time....25 % part time...
so all full time have to primary sort...packet sort or prep 3 walks....

sooo the idea of having to just prep mine and my partners would be bliss LOL

All our walks are done by part timers, except one which is covered by three full timers after prep. Full timers prep two walks (3 on Tuesdays) and do driving duties. Our ratio is Full Timers 33% Part Timers 66% roughly

Seems to be a strategy of Royal Mail to cut costs. We were told a few years back that there would be no such thing as a full time duty in the future. Any full timer retiring or leaving, their duty would be advertised as either two part time duties or for example a 30 hour duty (instead of 39 hours), with the extra 9 hours lapsed onto other duties or "dumped" on the unsuspecting newcomer who thought they were getting a 30 hour a week job. This of course saves Royal Mail 9 hours every week the newcomer is off on annual leave, or sick, and saves on everything else that is paid pro rata (eg delivery supplement).
The system backfires on them when the newbie can only work their time. We had a guy that left for a new job, which unfortunately didn't work out for him, and he managed to get back in to Royal Mail (albeit in a different office) on a 1 hour contract covering part timers and full timers. He was grateful for the job, but when it came to annual leave he was only getting paid 1 hours wages a week (not good when you're paying a mortgage). After negotiation (Union involved) he managed to get a 16 hour contract. This worked out OK for a while, but they were still relying on him to do full time work on a 16 hour contract. He tried to get his contract increased, Royal Mail refused, so he said he would just work his time, which he did for a week. It only took one week of mail piling up before they put his contract up to 30 hours a week.

Happens here but getting to the point were we only get about 3 people on IPS :(
