second stage 3 with depression

Hi, can anyone help me with some advice for a work mate who has reached his second stage 3 with depression, he is under the doctor, he is also on medication,do you think we have a chance in saving his job.

There are several factors to be considered his length of service, the amount of days lost through absence, how long between his last stage 3 and the present stage3, circumstances surrounding his stage1 and stage 2 absence, OH Assist involvement in these absences, family issues, has there been hospitalisation and surgery accounting for any of these absences etc. His union rep should have this man medical history and although being at a stage3 for the second time is not good the union rep will need to put up a strong case for this man to continue in employment. No knowledge if his first stage3 was reduced by a manger or at the appeal stage and if goes to appeal stage for the current stage3 then hopefully will be heard by a different appeals manager.

depression being a mental health issue should be a strong point to put for mitigation. but this is RM.

Never mind mitigation,surely this debilitating illness is covered under Equality Act,legislation,hopefully someone has had the foresight to refer him to Occupational Health,but ax you pointed out,this is RM. We can always hope.

I am dealing with something similar at the moment.
Has your mate had depression for the last 12 months, or is it likely to continue for the next 12 months ( it sounds by reading your post it already has) he could come under the equality act. now this could depending on what his doctor has diagnosed and been putting on his certificates
and what he has stated in the welcome back meetings and the A1,2, and 3 reviews.
If so, it should be or have been taken into account by OH assist and royal mail, by maybe changing the amount of days before he triggers an Attendance review ( one option).

Great advice, if they actually did they could be up on a charge of discrimination. Also posting such advice on a public website could cause you problems, let's hope it's not your manager who is lurking on here.

You know sometimes people who know me call this a site for knuckledraggers. Comments like the one above are the ones that get quoted back to me as "proof".

I,ve had several bouts of depression and believe me its no joke, so comments like that deserve a ban from this site, its to me as bad as racism !!!
