Criminal record check for new starters

Can anyone help me, i have been asked by a friend about the criminal record check you have when going through the recruitment process.

What i have been asked, by a friend who is applying, is what they check for? Would a caution make them fail the check? It wasn't for theft or fraud or anything like that.

If anyone could help so they know if they are wasting their time or not that would be great.

a caution for whatever reason is spent after 3 years and will only become active again if the person commits the same crime again.

I have got a caution on my record from back in 2001 and got my job with rm in 2007 and nothing was said.

I think the caution was only about 2 years ago so looks like it won't be spent yet.

No hard and fast answer on this it will depend entirely on what the caution was for and potentially the circumstances surrounding it, plenty of posties hired with convictions let alone cautions but then again plenty turned down for things others may consider insignificant

also if he fails to mention it on his application and then it turns up when they do the checks that would definitely go against him
